Dole whips, chick-fil-a, and publix subs (and publix everything else); We also drink a ton of sweet tea in the northern part of Florida. We have a saying, "The further south you go in Florida, the more north it is." That's referring to all of the retired northerners who migrate down to south Florida to live.

Oh hey! I've been to Orange World before. It's really weird to go in there when you're a Florida resident because places like that are built specifically for tourists. But it's cool there because you can get a bunch of fresh oranges and other citrus. As for how it's like here? The weather is really strange. It can be sunny one day, and then it'll rain really hard for a week straight. And it hardly gets cold in the winter. Also it's hard to find actual Florida residents unless you go to a more rural area like Polk County, because places like Orlando and Tampa are filled with tourists. Also, never come to Florida during the winter, because that's when all the old people come, and they back up traffic really bad.

Don't forget the 5-minute downpours! Nothing beats Florida's 5-minute downpours where you go from hot&sunny, without a cloud in the sky to suddenly a mid-hurricane deluge of rain, and then back to hot and sunny all within a few minutes and then you have to deal with extreme sauna-esk steamy humidity for the rest of the day. :D

Orange blossom honey takes me back to childhood in Florida when there were acres and acres of citrus groves. Driving through in Spring, the scent of orange blossoms was heady, sweet, and fruity. Orange blossom water comes close to the scent. Disappointed that the Florida package didn’t include boiled green peanuts. An amazing nostalgic treat. Salty, garlicky, yum!

+Alana D Also a tip to avoid any tourist traps: If you see any "key lime" flavored foods that are green in color, it's not authentic. A real key lime dessert will have a _very pale_ yellow/cream look to it, not obnoxiously florescent green. They add green food coloring in some desserts to make it look more "limey" I guess, but a true Floridian key lime dessert will never have that. Another thing, key limes are different from Persian limes. They're much smaller and have a very distinct and concentrated balance of sweetness v. tartness to them. So you can't get away with making a key lime pie with Persian limes; It just won't taste the same.
@meshakgirl

I know I have said this before, but it is amazing how you can always link flavors to other country videos that you have done in the past. You have a great 'taste' memory :) For me, it is scent, I can remember most scents and it brings back a memory.

I live in Florida and have only had two of those. Gator jerky tastes so much like a slim Jim because it essentially is, if you look at ingredients its mostly beef and pork, not gator. The orange blossom honey on the other hand is amazing, especially local unfiltered stuff. Helps prevent the orange pollen allergies a lot of Floridians develop too. I would guess the other ones are only sold around the coast and keys, tourist areas where lots of orange and lime flavored stuff is served.

Mardi Gras is actually very popular here in South Florida! Parades and such at our theme parks like Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure are great ways to end the day at the park :) I've grown up here all my life and when I was younger, my family and I actually took a trip to Universal Studios in Orlando almost every year! And if not there, then it was Bush Gardens! I adore my home state and all of its cities and honestly can't really imagine living anywhere else. I invite all to come out and soak up the sun in our constant summer here! It really is a nice piece of paradise.

I'm in Orlando and you can find most of those coconut snacks at any Walmart in this section they have that is full of touristy stuff and Disney stuff. Gator Worl,d is right about the border of Orlando and Kissimmee, so most of those other things like the gator stick and hot sauce can be found more in Kissimmee, which is tourist central with it being so close to Disney. This is probably why so many FL people here have never seen or heard of many of these treats.

I would imagine that the beads are from Gasparilla, the celebration of the invasion of the pirate Jose Gaspar and his crew (takes place in Tampa). Pirates invade the city for a month and there are many parades that involve much bead throughing. Super fun! Our pirate history is why our football team is called the buccaneers.

I'm from Orlando, FL. We have Universal Studios here and in Feburary-May we have Mardi Gras celebration there. On the weekends there's a parade and usually some type of concert! I have been many times and there are plenty of beads, so maybe that's why he included those beads! Florida is famous for it's oranges and key lime pie, and of course it's alligators! I grew up in Orlando which is in the center of Florida but I was born in Sarasota, the West Coast of Florida. :)

:) Tampa, Fl is known for Gasparilla, which is a pirate-themed festival in late January/early February with several Mardi-Gras-style parades (lots of floats, beads & public intoxication), an "invasion" by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla where they receive the keys to the city, etc. It started in 1904, so it's gone on for 100+ years and is based on a legend that the pirate Jose Gaspar used the Tampa Bay area as a hunting ground/base/place to bury his plunder.

Key lime, yummy! Tart! I tried alligator sausage in NOLA. It basically tasted like chicken, but had a sort of fishy or briny umami flavor. Not a fan... Is that Gator Sauce made with datyl peppers? Those traditionally grew only in St Augustine. They have a great flavor, a bit sweet with a little heat. The plants are now allowed out of Florida, maybe I can grow one... Both my parents were born in Pensacola. My mom had a bunch of good ol' southern recipes like bread pudding, grits with sugar or an egg, greens with vinegar or pepper, green beans with bacon, and oddly, a great tamale pie recipe. It included whole corn in the meat mix, so yummy!

Lol! I love the World's Biggest Orange! In Australia we have big things too! Every state has a big thing that's very Aussie. It has a cult following, lots of people go driving around the country to see these big things. Apparently there's at least one in every state (we only have 8 states) but some places like New South Wales (I live in Sydney which is in NSW) have 50 big things! The most known are The Big Banana (NSW) and The Big Pineapple (QLD). My comments on the foods from this video: * Shame I'm allergic to Honey :( Honey is in soooo many things! * We have meat sticks here, they are usually called Twiggy Sticks, Salami Sticks or Hot Rods / Hot Shots! * The coconut candy in the Florida selection reminds me of a picture I've came across once of an American sweet called an Idaho Spud (without the coconut on top). It looks like a slice of one but I know they are made of Marshmallow! Our equivalent to an American Mound bar is a Mars Bounty bar. Mars has a Cherry Bounty bar but it's not like our Cadbury Cherry Ripe bars which are heaven! You have tried one before in one of your Aussie videos :)
