Emotional residential area overlooking the military port/Walk around the residential area near heaven Sasebo Part 2 (Nagasaki Prefecture)
Sasebo Port is a good natural port with port entrances at Takagosaki and Nishisonogi Peninsula Yorifunesaki, and has prospered as a military port since the establishment of a naval base in 1886 (Meiji 19). The city expanded in the wake of the Sino-Japanese War and World War II, and although it temporarily declined after the war, it flourished due to the bases of the U.S. military and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, and the development of heavy industry. Most of the city of Sasebo was damaged during World War II, so there are no old townscapes left, but there are buildings from U.S. military bases and Maritime Self-Defense Force bases, and wide empty streets that were planned as a war-damage recovery city. The modern architecture in the town is distinctive. While Nagasaki has the exotic feel of the Netherlands or China, Sasebo has an atmosphere reminiscent of an American west coast city.
On the north side of Sasebo Port, the U.S. Navy Sasebo Base and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Sasebo Inspector General Headquarters are located so that their main gates face each other, and a residential area rises to an altitude of around 165 meters on the slope behind them. Some of these areas include areas where old houses with the same specifications are lined up with stone walls, brick walls (red bricks and steel slag bricks), and gambreled single-story houses, and areas where large mansions are lined up in a row of residential lots. It reminds me of a residential area for naval officers or a company housing area for shipyards.
