Humidor Guide - Information and recommendations about humidors and the correct cigar storage
I. Cigars, a sensitive good - Nature and Culture -
II. Key Components of a Humidor
A humidor should ensure constant climate conditions of 68 to 74 percent relative humidity.
The case of quality humidors should have an interior lining made of dried Spanish cedar wood, due to its excellent capacities for storing humidity and the special flavor emited by the wood.
Simple humidification devices are based on sponge elements. More sophistaced devices are based on acryl polymers. The humidification device should regulate humidity to a constant level. The best option will be a fully electronically controlled humidifier.
The hygrometer measures the level of humidity. Also for hygrometers, different systems are offered on the market. First choice are the so called hair hygrometers based on a synthetic hair mechanism as they posess a superior accuracy.
The humidor case should be well sealed and the lid of the humidor should close tightly to avoid the escape of humidity.
III. Adorini deluxe humidors - a new generation of humidors -
Adorini humidors offer a range of unique features at an attractive price, which make them an excellent choice for the purchase of a new humidor.
All adorini humidors come with a life-time warranty.
Robust hinges ensure a proper seal of the humidor even after many years of use. The hinges are gold-plated and have been polished by hand.
Inside the humidors special ventilation ribs and an innovative shelve construction ensure an optimum air circulation. This is very important to guarantee equal climate conditions in every corner of the humidor.
The integrated Adorini deluxe humidification device is based on acryl polymers, providing a faster adjustment of the humidity level.
Another adorini innovation - the flexible divider system allows you to make always optimal use of the space within the humidor. Additional label clips on top of the dividers permit an attractive presentation of your cigars.
Adorini deluxe humidors are equipped with a high precision hair hygrometer. This hygrometer has been optimized particularly for the use in humidors and comes already pre-calibrated.
IV. Preparation of a humidor
Before you store cigars in a new humidor you should take some simple steps of preparation:
The interior walls and all dividers and trays should be wiped with a tissue moistened with distilled water.
Then keep a glass of distilled water for about three days in the closed humidor.
This will ensure that the inside wood of the humidor will have absorbed sufficient humidity and will not extract humidity from your cigars during the first days of storage.
As the next step you will have to charge the humidifier.
Fill a deep plate with distilled water and place the humidifier for about five minutes in the water to absorb the liquid. Take the humidifier out of the water, shake it to remove any water that was not absorbed and dry the outside case of the humidifier.
As a final step you may have to calibrate the hygrometer. For the hygrometers of adorini calibration is generally not required as the hygrometers have already been calibrated before shipment.
Fill a small glass with salt and moisten the salt with just some drops of water. Now leave the salt solution for about 8 hours together with the hygrometer in a sealed box, for example a Tupperware box.
After eight hours a humidity level of about 75 percent will be reached inside the box. Now take a screwdriver and move the calibration screw at the backside of the hygrometer, so that it indicates a humidity of 75 percent.
Your humidor is now ready to store your cigars!
