Shimming the end float could well make the big ends and little ends wear even more because it could push the crank shaft to a position where the connecting rods are operating not exactly at tight angles to the crank shaft.

For what it's worth, I once owned a Beetle with 2mm endfloat (which it had when I bought it) and it just would not die no matter how hard I thrashed it. I suspect that the bearing clearances were just so wide it was unable to seize!

LOL yeah I've heard of other people say similar things. I actually went to buy a bug in the 90s and the amount of endfloat it had was truely insane, but the guy was still driving it. I guess it's a balance between running till its dead and not running too long so the case is still recoverable. Thanks for the feedback 😊👍

@@PeoplesCar NOTHING was recoverable in this one when I took this (still running) engine apart!!! Actually, a lie - the cam plug was ok...

@thedubwhisperer2157 LOL 😅. You'll have to start upcycling! The Aircooled CT motor I split because was a mile out of spec, and noone seems to have the extra long tooling needed to line bored these 'rare' cases, is probably destined to be a lamp like this one... kzitem.info/news/bejne/rount52Zr36bl6g You can give the old broken crap that you won't throw away to people as gifts and it no longer fills your garage, bonus! 😊👍

@@PeoplesCar Great idea! I'm always disappointed that Auto Linea didn't include an oil filter like the CT on their repro aluminium cases...

Yeah that does seem bit of a strange move as that was a good upgrade. I believe you can buy a oil pump take off plate to do something similar as is one on one of my engines, not sure where it came from however. Would at least save having the case tapped. It does affect the exhaust you can use tho as was going to use a low profile setup similar to stock, the exhaust you see in my 1600 upgrade vid, but won't work with the filter in place so means using a full header. 😊👍
