I can think of nobody on KZitem who has so generously shared his wealth of knowledge on the subject of sailing and the vessels to do so. The humor and insights will be sorely missed. CAPTAIN ! BECAUSE OF YOU and Ran-day, I finally bought a real boat! At 68 ! I have been a weekend sailor for years but NEVER felt like I knew enough to go big. But you have trained me. You have given me a priceless gift of confidence. I bought a 1984 Catalina 36 and am out on the water learning to singlehand her! Pretty sure you are the reason. Thank you CAPTAIN !!!

Thank you both for the many hours of nautical pleasures. The wrapping-up montage made it clear that clambering over old boats had become something of a contact sport. Whilst we will miss the Captain’s charm, wisdom and effervescent good humour - the knee pads, bandages et al showed the very real cost. So I hope all will will join me in wishing him the fairest of seas and following winds in what he has planned for next. Randy has certainly taken the tiller and is producing great content on another interesting tack. Even if I never heard the Cap’n opine on the Concordia I do hope he will make an appearance again without having to clamber up a ladder on the hard. BZ to you both for the community you created and the interest you generated in old classics.

Ohhhh my Lord! I've been away from viewing my regular channels for a while, though still following Sailing Uma- Dan being a fellow Canadian and I love to watch him fix stuff- and I'd also lost my password for my old KZitem so haven't have my regular shows lined up. This show, with Captain Q, was one of my favourites. To have a young man film this very knowledgable Captain Q, what a joy! So sad he's retired. Also it's sad he didn't have a last goodbye show. I loved, loved, loved this show. I had regularly watched a number of sailing channels, and trimmed them down to a few, including this one. I'm glad the show has wonderful archived material. My best wishes for Captain Q on his retirement from KZitem and best wishes for his health. Fair winds and fair sailing.

Heartbreaking that he’s retiring from the channel. His knowledge and more importantly his good natured demeanor will be dearly missed. KZitem will not be the same without the Capt. Q personality. You cannot imagine how much I have learned from you all and the two-fer will live always in my mind thanks to your work. I used to tell people looking for boats that they need to watch all the Capt. Q videos to learn what there is out there for options. I have been hearing the breathing become harder and harder and Capt Q doesn't seem himself in this video so I hope the ol' Captain is doing ok. I know these channels take a lot of work and at some point it's too much. Cheers to you Ran-Day and what you bring to the future of the channel. I have to comment on the endearing relationship between Randay and Q. This series has been about something more than just the boats, or just the knowledge gained from the captain's lifelong experience of adventures and pleasures under sail. I have admired the interaction between the two, the humor, the respect, the shared curiosity and imagination for how each boat can carry us to our different destinations. And it continues, from the long ago back story, patient mentor and enthusiastic apprentice driving to windward aboard the mythical Perfect Boat, now emerging into a passing of the torch. It is odd how these episodes of looking at old boats are tinged with little lessons about the the bonds of deep friendship across generations, and the joy of living.

My Dear Randall, It has been a joy to see the love between you and the Captain. We have learned a lot and laughed a bit at the highbrow antics you have shared with us. It is tough, brother sailor, but as we know, "All things must pass". It is like the end of an era but it is not the end of the world. Please, Randall, keep the flame burning, become a keeper of the flame and take the torch that is now being passed to you and hold it high and proud. "Ran day", you are the Captain now. Evolve, the only constant we have in life if change. Captain Q deserves his peace. Maybe you could collaborate on a book, "The Philosophy of Sailing". Sunset comes for us all. At 75 myself, I feel it coming. It is a beautiful time. Looking at boats through the eyes of Captain Q has taught has taught us so much through these years about the technical side of sailing but what shines for me is the wit and wisdom and humor of the overall presentation. Entertaining and informative. I know you love the Captain. Stay close to the old guy. He made his mark in the world. We are grateful.

The Captain has been great for aspiring boaters as well as old, crusty salts like me. It won't be the same without him. He will be missed. Randall, you have been an integral part of the channel's success in so many ways and I'm delighted to hear that you will be continuing the adventures. So to those, like us, who choose to stay the course, I say, in the words of a brave man, Winston Churchill... (I'll paraphrase the sentiment to fit the situation): "We shall fight off the lee shores of Montauk , We shall fight on the bays and oceans. We shall fight with confidence in the growing strength of the wind. We shall defend our vlog, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight off the out-takes, We shall fight on the fishing grounds. We shall fight in the mooring fields and in the dry docks. We shall fight over broken gear and torn sails; We shall never surrender".

Thank you very much, Captain Q! Owning my own yacht is still five years off but you have stoked a life ambition to own a yacht and go on adventures. Quite often i find myself asking what Captain Q would think of any given boat I come across. Thank you for your entertainment, knowledge and wit, its been a blast! All the best Captain Q, wishing you many happy sails and adventures in the Jag!

What a wonderful teacher you have been, Captain Q. Thank you for all of the wonderful content you and Randay have created. It's quite a legacy of important information and an invaluable reference library of boats, boat builders and designers. Best wishes to you going forward.

Thanks for the update. I was concerned I might have missed this video as I noticed that we weren't seeing much of Captain Q lately. Glad to hear he is healthy and I can completely understand that clambering around on dry docked boats is tough on all the joints and bruising. Best of luck and we hope to see more of you in front of the camera Randy!
