Wow. I acutally fixed my ABL with this tip. I would've never figured it out myself. Ever since I've gotten Creality's Sprite extruder, my probe kept telling me that left side was about 0.2mm higher than it actually was. Looks like the interference from either the mainboard or x axis motor was affecting my BL Touch. I've wrapped the BL Touch completely with a wire and grounded it to the printer frame. Perfect bed leveling right away. You're a lifesaver man.

After seeing that this fixed it for you, I decided to try a ferrite bead on my BLTouch to see if that very similar fix would work. Installing a choke is easier, doesn't require soldering and likely cheaper if you don't have any sheilding laying around. I used a ferrite ring I had in my parts bin, but it has a hole large enough to let the wide end of the BLTouch sensor pass through. It's about 12mm inside diameter and 15mm OD, this is likely not critical as long as the connectors fit through. I did as many turns as the extra length of the wires allowed which ended up being 6 turns. This completely solved the issue for me. I was only able to get about 1 out of every 5 bed level's to complete, now I've had 100% success since installing the choke. Clip on units can be found on Amazon for ~$5.00.

Just a tip, there is a braided wire shield in coaxial cables which should be available locally, eg. in the radioshack. Just watch out not to take the one with aluminium foil shield. RG-58A/U is just wide enough with 3mm internal diameter and is quite cheap. If there is a need for shielding more wires or thicker ones, more expensive RG-214/U has dual layered braid with 7mm internal diameter.

I assume you did this tutorial after my comment on the previous video mentioning the inductance issue. I just ordered a BLtouch and adding some shielding makes sense. I''ll probably use heat shrink tubing instead of electrical tape for a neat installation. Tape gets sticky and comes unstuck in a messy way with time. When I was in the AF, they didn't allow us to use electrical tape on aircraft. We had this silicon tape called F-4 tape (probably because it holds F-4 Phantoms together) that would bond to itself when stretched. Really handy stuff. I know you can find similar on Amazon and Ebay by searching for F-4 tape.

This video helped a lot.. Thank you. My mesh was always kicking up to one side and too close to the other side... it was driving me crazy. I actually tried to isolate the BLtouch cable by running it around the front and over the X motor ( with the rest of the print head loom running from behind the X motor {I am running direct drive]) to see if it made a difference before spending money on shielding. It run a perfect mesh first time after so many terrible looking meshes on visualizer. I will shield it and run it back in the loom, but distancing it from the other wires this much seems to be a bit of a ghetto solution too. I am blown away that there isn't more info on this !! I am betting all the leveling issues on the S1 and S1 pro is for the same reason with that unshielded ribbon cable.

I switched to an EZABL and haven’t had a lick of trouble. I did switch the lcd to the Creality 12864 lcd as per TH3D’s recommendation. You get options with the 12864 that are not available on the v2 color lcd. I ended up having more invested in the Bltouch than what the EZABL cost me. @JeffJackson86
3 жыл бұрын
@@tomw8745 well yes and no. I ran my cable in a separate wire mesh (same kind as factory wires) and routed them with spacers so they didn't have direct overlap. Did that make a difference, I think so BUT i can't tell you for sure. BUT, check your 5 wire plug that connects to the BLTouch. Yesterday i noticed that the little fingers that hold the pins in the plug had broken off and my wires had backed out of the plug. How this happened i have no idea, i haven't ever messed with that end of the plug. Other thoughts. as long as my BLTouch makes it through the 25 point grid i'm in good shape. - The failure typically happens in the first 12 points. -I believe that this is a power delivery issue, it almost seems like the BlTouch loses power because the red light flickers like its turning off and on. - something that bothers me is that the machine stops the bed level at this point then just continues with the print job, BUT then it doesn't do the right thing, usually spitting out filament for a couple of seconds or grinding the X axis belt then stopping. -I usually fix the issue by turning the machine off and back on then printing again. i can print 5 in a row no problem then have the next two need restarts. Anyone else experiencing these type of symptoms?

If your BL Touch is going into error mode (Blinking Red) it is also worth inspecting the ribbon cable (both visual and perform bend flexing around the cable tie points to see if the rigidity of the cable differs) as from my own experience with constant movement of the ribbon it breaks the wires inside and this leads to intermittent problems with the BL Touch. I suspected the probe sensor, Creatility PCB and BL-Touch before I finally pinned the problem down to wear in the cable. This can be very hard to detect and I think adding shielding may think you are solving a problem when all you are doing is masking the break in the wire as I'm sure the shielding will stiffen the cable and probably error less!. This advise may help some of you if you have BL Touch error problems.

It's incredible. The BLTouch cable must actually be shielded, if it is routed too close to the fan cables. (kzitem.info/news/bejne/y6GZ2IZ5sYKdjYI). If I turn off one of the two fans on my hotend, leveling works without any problems. If I switch it on again, it will break off leveling somewhere. The disturbances actually seem to come from the control of the fans. I preheated the printer and then set it to cool down and then leveling it ... so one fan on my hotend is also off and it works. The bed then still has a temperature of 50-60 degrees. For leveling once a week or a month, that's enough for me, because I want to save myself having to shield the cable. :-D

The problems vary from the probe failing during startup to the probe failing while its doing it's probe test to the bed intermittently.
