It's not that bad really. You only need to say a few "fascist" things (which can be done with non-racist dialogue options, just say you miss the old Revachol or whatever). Then you get the thought and you can take this quest after the third day. It's no more gross than facing the ever-looming artillery spyship of the Moralintern and remaining a Moralist in my view anyway. Though it's not very good for Harry.

4:10 "You are a terror even to yourself." Conceptualization's line reminds of me Kierkegaard, in The Sickness Unto Death, describing how individuals respond differently to despair: while some suffer despair secretly, others are "a terror to others, [they] raged in despair." That seems to me one of the psychological essences of fascism, which this quest beautifully gives voice to: the person who responds to their despair (that "horrible secret," that "source of shame and panic" we keep "locked in the deepest cellars of our mind") with rage, with the choice to become a terror unto others--a monster. Disco Elysium is all about (well, among other things) how Harry--how we--will respond to despair, the "ruins of the past" that the game explicitly mentions several times. DE posits that the fascist/traditionalist response is among the worst one can choose.

God, this subplot ends on such a depressing note. The fact that your portrait changes to resemble Gary's indicates that you've accepted that you're going to be just as much of a bitter, burnt-out loser as he is. If you play Harry as a fascist (with everything that entails, such as the binge drinking), I can't envision any other outcome that doesn't involve him dying within a few years of the game ending. It seems like Harry is embracing pointless nihilism and self-destruction here rather than dealing with it in any sort of constructive manner. There is no possible redemption for Harry if he fully commits to this path.

"Who said anything about giving up?" I see things differently, Harry finally summons the strength to cope with his past and let Her go (which is a very healthy move for him, even though the latter dream sequence on the island shows that it doesn't help much). He also gains the will to move forward even after facing the nihilistic truth about worldwide meaninglessness of life. He's called an icebreaker for a reason.

@@Tk-mj1cl He can call himself whatever he wants, he's still a loser. Just like Measurehead, with all his "racial superiority", he still got destroyed by a depressed alcoholic with one foot in the grave. Thing is, after all this self-delusion and boasting in front of a mirror, he's just as pathetic as before, if not more. He still doesn't do anything to better himself, just puts on the crying wojak mask and lies to himself. I'd say the Harry who sees the phasmid and becomes hopeful that he truly can be better and gives up drinking is a much better solution than this shite. Moral of the story: Nihilism is for cowards, don't be a nihilist.

Or more specifically, his attachment to his ex. He's basically pulling a MGTOW/incel thing where he blames his fixation on a woman in his life for all his problems. His vision quest says its his ex that's holding him back and he's _technically_ correct. But Harry probably hasn't had the most healthy views about women before now, especially given some of the intrusive thoughts that show up as dialogue choices with Sylvie. Vicquemare sarcastically puts down Harry's relationship with his ex as just a superficial attachment to how "bangable" she is and we learn they weren't even married. We know Harry was a gym teacher who became a detective in order to prove worthy of a "bourgeoise" woman who taught art in the east (i.e. rich) part of the city. The dream Harry has of Dolores seems to suggest they split up over pretty common reasons. Harry's career is stressful and takes much of his time and they started to drift professionally. The money wasn't good enough to support their lifestyle and she moved on to do her own thing. Basically, nothing about Harry's seven-year pining over a woman really warrants this weird melodrama.
