This is a trick to make you buy new batteries. As some people have also said their new batteries cause the flashing red light. I have 2 uniross fast chargers, one looks similar to the above, the second is a larger standing block. The first one obviously does as this video shows, flashing red light and batteries do not charge. The second charges them normally, no explosions, no problems, just charges them as normal. What are perfectly normal chargeable batteries to other chargers, these claim to be damaged, forcing you to buy new batteries. It's a scam feature!
@traxonwax

bigo93 I agree. I have the same issue with Duracell rechargers. The same batteries that will flash red put into a Magic Mouse to drain will charge perfectly when placed back in the chargers. So the batteries need to be totally discharged.

I was looking for a solution. This does not help and I already knew this. I have a new and old set of AAA/AA Energizer batteries and they won't charge. The light turns green for about 2 minutes then it turns red. The battery charger is not charging the batteries. What should I do?
@ZilinaSK

I have a couple of these chargers and high percentage of my NiMH batteries will make the red led flash. I find any one of the 4 charging slots can be used to identify the “problematic” cell. This does not mean these cells are defective, but that the batteries internal resistance is too high for them to be safely charged without overheating (they could melt or burst). Most of these “problematic” NiMH batteries will charge successfully if charged in a slower charger. Remember that fast chargers dramatically reduce the life of cells, so should only be use occasionally or in an emergency.

Place your "bad" batteries in an old flash light (not LED) to drain any residual charge. Then try recharging them. More often than not this saves them from flashing. I don't know why this works but it does.
@Moveon10001

You can use a better battery charger that "CONDITIONS" those batteries by slowly discharging them and then recharging them over time. www.thomasdistributing.com/MAHA-MH-C801D-AA--AAA-Battery-Charger-DELUXE-8-Cell-Professional-Battery-Charger-w-Full-LCD-Display_p_2559.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAnOzSBRDGARIsAL-mUB2vPDQNBy5Q6Jcl01zO3iR5k3Dg_x8iSof_X52rVokHhiK8y2LWS68aAmDNEALw_wcB The above link shows what I use to keep all my batteries working. This is the best battery charger for AA and AAA batteries that I've found so far. I have a lot of different battery chargers including two of the ones talked about in the article above. The slower you charge the batter the longer they will last. Fast charging develops too much heat and heat will weaken the battery. I spend a day or more re-conditioning eight batteries at a time. It may take a few days to get all my batteries reconditioned. It's either that or slow charge each battery monthly to kept them fresh and ready to go. I've got Eveready 1850 mAh batteries up to 2400 mAh batteries and some in-between. I prefer the Duracell Pre-Charged 2000 mAh batteries. I started using Li-Ion battery packs from my FoxPro Shockwave game caller. This unit requires 10 AA NiMH batteries to operate. I replaced the ten NiMH battery pack with a single FoxPro Lithium Ion battery pack which works better in the cold. I've been using rechargeable batteries of all kinds for over 40 years. I used the original rechargeable batteries back in the early 1980's. I used the NiCad batteries years ago before the NiMH battery become available. Now it's all Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries. Heat is still the enemy of rechargeable batteries. Heat speeds up all chemical reactions. So go slow and preserver your battery life. And discharge them down ever few months and then charge them back up slowly to keep them at peak performance. Even new batteries can use a few cycles of charge, discharge and recharge to get them working at the best. I'm talking about the NiMh type batteries now.

Every 15 minute charger I have used rejected 1 or more batteries after being charged a couple of times. Turf those 15 minute chargers out, whether Energizer or Duracell, they're garbage and use the 8 hour chargers. This charger is actually 'breaking' the batteries due to the high current and heat produced. Instead of achieving a hundred charges, the batteries are likely to stop fast-charging after a dozen (sometimes less) charges, and will then only recharge in a slow charger. It's great to be able to charge batteries in 15 mins, and also that they can be charged individually rather than in pairs. But I would only use this charger in emergencies, if I needed the batteries right away. Otherwise, use a slower charger. Regarding the flashing light, the insert in the packaging tells you what it means.

Easy fix for battery that flashes fast red. Hook it to a car battery trickle charger. I shock it with the 6 volt setting and touch pos to pos and neg to neg. charge it about 8 seconds. Battery will get warn because u are charging a 1.5 bolt with 6 volts but I promise u it will not flash fast after and will charge. I've down it 25 times or more. I may have to shock it 2 times in a row for 8 to 10 secs but it will work ;)

Using the 2nd from left slot only lets you know if the individual battery is too far gone to come back.. You can only rapid recharge batteries in this charger about 500x b4 it fries the NIMH chemistry & internal contacts too badly. Alternatively, you can TRY using these batteries in a SLOW charger and see if they take a charge.. some will, some won't. After a lot of recycle charges, it's POSSIBLE that they might be a hit or miss for the rapid charge again, YMMV. I have a 60min charger for this.

One last thing, You'll notice that the batteries get HOT as they charge.. temperature kills the batteries.. try charing them about 1/2 way 7-8 mins.. and let them cool down.. then have another go at it (maybe after 20 mins in the fridge or 45-60 mins in ambient temps). This might yield you an extra 100+ charges over it's lifetime. If an individual battery is too hot to touch for 10 seconds, it's time to let it cool. Why not get 600+ charges vs 500..?

If you warm up the bad battery a bit it will often take a charge. I sit my bad battery on top of charging batteries and once it is warm I try it again (i've been doing this for years with some batteries). I guess old batteries just need a little heat before they can accept a charge. I have the charger with 4 lights so if 1 is blinking i take it out and set it on 2 of the charging batteries until it is warm and try again.

sometimes batteries that go on the red "BLINK" CAN be charged, just not with a rapid charger.. you need a SLOWER charger for this to work, a 2 hour to 60 minute charger will probably get you another 25 - 100 cycles out of the battery if it takes a charge at all. for that you may need a battery tester.. or a simple device like a volt meter to see if you get btw 1.45v & 1.5v. if the battery doesn't charge beyond 1.4v anymore it is nearing the end of its life. btw, sometimes you can trick the charger into working, but its a PITA, you have to keep taking the battery out and putting it back in again.. cycle it through all the slots, favoring the 2nd from the left side frequently. I've gotten batteries to work again, only to have them go back to blink eventually on the next few cycles. at $2 each, getting 300 or so cycles before the blink isn't a bad deal. buy some new ones.
