1:55 it is a mistake to say that hydrogen does not exist in its pure form in the real world. It is a stable atom and it does exist in that pure form. they just happen to be located in the upper atmosphere since it is the lightest atom there is.

Thanks for the video, but what I'd REALLY love to know is how fast the energy observer can go on solar power alone in the summer / other seasons. Maybe slightly buffered by battery but in continuous cruising. PS: Wow 5000 patents for a hydrogen car? We clearly have too many patents encumbering development of green technology. Greed is our downfall not just from the fossil fuel, but also investors who try to min-max profit from buying monopolies on knowledge.

something is not right here. from wiki the boat have 106kwh lithium battery and 65kg of hydrogen. 1kg hydrogen is 34kwh so 65 x 34 2210kw so 2330 kw total storage. 2x41kw motors. So it use 82kw per hr. On board there 21kw solar and 2k wind turbine total 23kw per hour. let say 10hrs of perfect sun a wind per day. so the boat generate 230kw per day. Let say the boat just run during day time. 10 hrs x 82kw is 820kw so will burn 590kw of storaged energy during that time. So it can run about 4 days (day time only) until it's out of power. If it ran 24hr like doing long passages. 14hrs night time will need to burn solely with storage energy that 14hr x 82kw is 1148kw. So 24hr it need 1148kw(night) +590kw(day) = 1738 kw. So after 24hr run you got 492kw storage energy leftover. That barely enough to run for the next 10hr day period. So let say total of 34hr run per top off. 106kw lithium battery at 23kw charge let just round up and say take 4hrs to charge. the hydrogen 2210kw. Not sure what the convention is to hydrogen energy pretty sure is not 100%. As it need burn energy to desalinate salt water to water and than break the H from water, then compress down to be liquid. So let assume 80%. So 23kw generate 18kw hydrogen energy during 10hrs day time and again 14hrs of wind power only at night will 28kw @80% will be 22kw. So for 24hr will be generate 202kw hydrogen energy. That 11 days to charge the full 65kg tank. it will take 11 days. for another continuous 34 hrs run. At maximum speed of 5kn that 170nm per leg l. Unless I'm looking this wrong there is not way it can do any Transocean passage crossing.

And PLEASE don't use "kW" as a unit of energy, it's a unit of power! 1 kW (1 kilowatt) = 1000 W = 1000 Joule per second. Think of the similar unit horsepower! 1 kWh (1 kilowatthour) = 1 kW x 1 hour = 1000 Joule per second x 3600 seconds = 3,600,000 Joule (3.6 MJ). That's a unit of energy. With an average power of 23 kW, you get/consume an energy of 230 kWh in 10 hours. There is no "kW per hour", like there is no "horsepower per hour"! Sorry, I know, this is a common mistake. But it was quite overwhelming in your comment, I couldn't ignore it.

Can anyone tell me how much electrical energy is required to generate one Kg of Hydrogen from electrolysis of sea water? Also how much electrical energy can be generated from one Kg of Hydrogen?
@701983
2 жыл бұрын
You need about 50 kWh for the electrolysis of 9 kg of water. The energy costs of desalination are negligible, just a tiny fraction of 1 kWh for 9 kg of water. And you get up to 20 kWh electricity back from the fuel cells. And ~10 kWh usable heat, for instance for water heating.

Make a ship that runs in hydrogen, make a ship that has a thorium reactor in it, that convert water into hydrogen and sail both of them together. They won't even need to come back to refuel. They can just set sail into the sunset like lovers.

Electrolysing saltwater creates sodium hypochlorite (household bleach). Its a system that's used to treat water for drinking/bathing. If every boat out went HFC by electrolysing the seawater as it went the sea would surely become toxic?
@HansWurst-tx9qk

As far as I understand it, the water is being desalted before electrolysing, thus the only byproduct is salt.

OK. How much costs 1000 Nm (including the investment costs/boat producion price). How much energy and CO2 took to produce all these gizmos. Non forgeting these poor slaves who wipe the deck of solar panels to maintain the eficiency. Nice during Summer Mediterrainian cruise.
