I am now on my fourth slow cooker in over 30 years. We bought one when first married and wouldn’t be with out it,we even bought a small one for our motorhome. A joint of meat started in the morning fills the house or van with a lovely aroma when we return at the end of a day out.I supplemented this with a basic air fryer four years ago ,with a microwave the cooker/oven is now resting!!

I empathise with @devilmahon666. My wife and I separated in 94 and I went through a lot of the emotions of bereavement. However, I was determined to learn to cook and in the process have tried lots of different appliances from the old stirrer type air fryer to a stand alone halogen oven. Some have fallen by the wayside and one has mysteriously vanished. Nowadays, my go-to appliances are; microwave/oven & grill, induction hob, slow cooker and the grill (broiler?) which is the only part of the old stove that I still use. Over the years I’ve become a bit jaded/lazy with cooking and tend to opt for quick and easy. Suffice to say that Sharon & Martin have rekindled an interest with their down-to-Earth guides. I too have recently bought the more modern type of air fryer. Not least, the attraction is that it appears to be much easier to clean than my old one. My condolences for your loss. Everyone is different as to how they deal with grief and you’ll never forget the sense of it but you will, hopefully, achieve a degree of coping that will allow to deal, more easily, with each day as it comes.

One of the things with some frozen veg, especially sweet corn and pease is that the nature of the rapid freezing process that takes place very soon after they are picked is that once corn or peas are picked the natural sugars rapidly start turning to starch. Freezing them stops that process so you end up with more tender, sweeter peas and corn. When cooking them I prefer simply to plunge them in rapid simmering water for a couple of minutes then serve immediately. This way they taste fresh picked still. I never buy fresh peas or corn from a supermarket as they are at least two days old and have lost 80% of their natural sweetness! With peas and corn frozen is best! Also, I do tend to buy the better quality more expensive ones as they have been frozen much sooner so retain their sweetness. Yet another wonderful looking meal from the dynamic duo!

As always, the interaction between you two cracks me up. This time my favourite meal, roast lamb, and your practical methods make the cooking eminently practical. I don’t have a camping gas hob but I do have a twin induction hob which heats up so quickly it must be cheaper to operate than a traditional cooker. I’ve recently swapped my old Tefal stirrer type air fryer for a twin drawer type with one large and one small drawer, which I’ve yet to christen. Can’t wait to try it out and I’m pretty sure I’ll do so with one of your examples.

Ohhhhhh my mouth is watering! I haven’t had lamb for AGES, I was sick on two separate occasions after having eaten it, but it wasn’t the lamb. The first I was taking s9me tablets which had to be taken just before, with or after food, I took them, expecting to be eating the roast dinner very soon, however one of my guests was delayed! We had dinner, and not long after…well I don’t need to repeat it. On the second occasion, I had my grandson over for dinner and I did lamb shanks for us, I served them and couldn’t go any further, the smell was enough, I’ve been wanting to try lamb again, but have been put off by the fact that I’d waste it if I couldn’t actually eat it, I will get round to it, at some stage!
