Saying corvettes are straight line cars is the biggest lie told to the car community. I've had 2 c6 corvettes, and multiple other cars from 350z to amg gts and the corvette is still my favorite.

@@iwshfg6 thats a funny assumption while I haven't owned either I've certainly driven a few and i still dont think i would daily drive any because i like my clutch. Not to take away from those cars i believe they are amazing cars and think i will own 1 soon. And just so you understand corvettes are my favorite not becaus they are the most expensive or fastest or best looking or anything like that, because they are not what they are is one of the most practical 2 seat high performance spots car that you can take to a track day beat on some expensive cars or go to any car meet and fit in. I daily drive a c6 z06 and people are always surprised of how huge the trunk is but the most important part to me is how much fun they are and as much as there are many cars faster its not the same without a stick.

So nice to see an actual *race* of cars, not just a battle of lap times. It's true that you won't get a truly even comparison of all the cars' full capabilities (a good cornering car will be held up in the turns by a car with better straight-line speed), but it makes for so much more of an exciting spectacle.

The NSX-R is probably the most perfectly balanced car of all time, between power, suspension tuning and chassis capability its just perfect. All it needs is a supercharger to make it a true supercar killer.

Ironic that you think the big V8 would dramatically change the weight/weight distribution of the car... When both the LS family and the S2000 i4 engines weigh around 350-450 lbs, depending on what exact equipment is included (with both quoting 450-ish for a dressed engine). The LS family of engines are legendary for their compact external dimensions and low weight, making them ideal engines to swap into even fairly lightweight vehicles... Because even a typical 2.0L i4 weighs as much or more than them, despite routinely having half the HP...
I had one with tubi exhaust and I used to rev that bitch often!! Hell, even the 430 was a beautiful sounding ride too.

Or tanner f can get the most out of a vette because they use to high power rwd cars..these guys race light weight awd cars mostly but it dont take alot of skill to drive those..not saying these guys not good drivers but just cause u a pro dont mean u a pro with every car

The 370Z was at 100%. It's a relatively cheap street car after all. After a few laps the Z heat soaked; which has more to do with the factory cooling system than the tune. This is to be expected. The cars it was going up against are big money track cars. They're built for this and you pay for the refinement.

Those corvettes ZR1 are pretty fast And they're really hard to find now. A lot of those cars fell into collector's hands. Here in America is really hard to find A Corvette ZR1. Another really hard car to find here is the Honda NSX. And when they go up for sale they go for crazy prices exactly like the Corvette ZR1.

Impressive to see, as the Corvette becomes more and more european it can finally compete. Dampers, springs, brakes and several other parts are german or italian thus making it much more refined but also more expensive since quality is expensive after all. The ZR1 is a Corvette I would really like to drive one day.

That poor Vette. Guy had to fight it every step of the way in those corners to keep from spinning the rears. Lots of power and too cold. Props to him for keeping it under control.

The corvette and ferrari 458 were the only cars with high performance all-season tires. The rest had extreme summer tires. If you put the advans or re11's on the vette and ferrari the outcome would be very very different.

Track is too small for that corvette. Struggles when it comes out of the turns. The cold temp also doesn’t help.

Ugh put on your glasses, the Ferrari and NSX were even more of a handful, did you see how much oversteer both had to fight and correct with the steering wheel. The ZR1 on the other hand looked like it was just cruising easily. Sorry you suck (not sorry).

@@zombielivesmatter7294 when all their power's in the top end, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the drivers are almost full sending the honda & ferraris into the corners, they're mid-engined, they have much less torque-y motors, and they gladly rev up to high hell & back. you can literally hear the zr1 driver trying his damndest not to spin it at around 2500-3000rpm while coming out of those low speed corners from the amount of torque it wants to put down. don't get me wrong, the corvette is an awesome machine, this track & tire combination just wasn't ideal for it.

I'm a Corvette guy rooting for my ride, BUT that Ferrari was in its rearview the entire time and was clearly the better car. Just couldn't get around it. The 370Z had no business being on the track with those cars. In fairness, it has a base price half that of the next most expensive vehicle (the ZR1).

As a jdm guy, who hopes to attain a ferrari one day, I think that Zr1 was a bit handicapped, not sure if it was driver issue or just the general setup of the car (tyres, suspension, etc). Based on other reviews ive seen, zr1 should be much more cleaner around the corners. Looks like he was all over the shop in a few laps. Even the drift king himself questioned the ZR1 driver towards the end of the video.

I am so happy that Corvette grew up. It took 50 years but at last now a proper racer. Awesome 5 lap races, thanks for posting these. Just shows what effort and money (and horses) are required to beat the cheaper cars.

The C4 was banned from certain racing series because Porsche and the Japanese cars could not compete, way back in the 1980s. Therefore, throughout the 1980s, they had a separate Corvette-only racing series. C4 ZR1 was one of the fastest (and best handling) vehicles on the planet at its time. C5 Z06, and even more so the C6 Z06, were both excellent supercars capable of taking on anyone's entry to mid level cars (like the 360 Modena or F430) in their time. Corvettes didn't take 50 years, you've just had your head in the sand for 30 of 'em... Also, incidentally, the 'Vette is about to turn 70, not 50.

The C4 zr1 was the fastest of its time? haha you forget the nsx, ferraris 911s and practically 20 more european and japanese cars, even the honda prelude of its time turned faster than the c4 zr1 in some tests. The c5 z05 was the one that started to drive well yet it was slower than an nsx with a chassis over 14 years old and 150hp less

Kind of sad to see this every race, but at least they did it to a ferrari for a change. All cars had extreme summer tires, save for the ZR1 and 458 which are wearing all-weather performance tires. Nice how they at least show the different tires, but if you're comparing apples to apples...

Amuse should be bummed about whoever setup the 370z. Heat soak in the Japanese winter? ABS? We track several modern Z's in Florida heat and no issues whatsoever on stock cooling and run of the mill race pads and fluid on OEM ABS units. Shame it couldnt have held up the supercars in the infield a tad longer

The grid is laid out from slowest lap time to fastest in best motoring so the ZR1 lapped faster than the 458 did apparently. Best motoring does this alot where they will throw in a more consumer level car to compare it to the top tier level cars. Like I watched one video where a sw20 mr2 was thrown into a race involving a GTR, 512TR, F40 and RUF CTR.

It was a mildly tuned up 370z. Most likely a more tuned up version wasn't available at the time of taping the show. A lot of times they'll throw in a more heavely tuned up jdm to compete better.

Let's go ZR-1! That car has such a better suspension than it gets credit for. Incredible how it can keep up with the marvelous 458 especially considering it's manual transmission must lose at least a tenth every upshift compared to the dual clutch Ferrari.

INSANE to think these cars had over 400hps!!! I have 70hp in my car and its fast, imagine that!

For 330 hp 370z with price around 30k and loosing just 4 sec from the the fastest 458 it's impressive .

So funny to read the comments that are surprised the Corvette did so well. You guys need to stop believing everything you watch on Top Gear and their obvious biases. The Corvette is what, 1/3 the price of the 458 and was offered with a manual transmission and kept right up with the 458. I love Ferrari, but or price is a factor for 99% of people.
