On 21 October 1805, during the series of conflicts known as the Napoleonic Wars, a Franco-Spanish fleet of 33 warships came out of harbour. A Royal Navy squadron commanded by Admiral Nelson lay in wait. The stage was set for what turned out to be a decisive engagement - the Battle of Trafalgar.
