I'm from Newcastle but I moved to London 15 years ago. Every time I come back I wonder what on Earth happened.

I knew a coffee shop owner in a shopping centre - He said his business rates doubled in five years and he couldn't afford to run his shop any more - Someone gets a Lambo in London I guess - While Africans are emptying artic trailers for all the online shoppers because no one else is strong enough to carry the workload of online Britain - Same old story - I know this because I've worked for two parcel sorting firms. So people go on about Africans, but they're ones carrying Britain.

I've always found that no ones business rates actually doubled in the way they make out . Lots of councils operate a small business rate relief scheme . You get a substantial discount which catches up to the full amount over ( you guessed it ) five years .
