Just so you know, usaully we don't have them in homes, mainly hotels and things like that have them. However they are there to stop the toast from getting soggy from condersenation. Essentially - "By maintaining air gaps between the slices, the toast rack allows water vapor to escape from hot toast instead of condensing into adjacent slices and making them soggy" though only flaw in this is they become colder quicker.

Although they've become a British staple, baked beans were an American invention, first imported into the UK by the chic London store, Fortnum & Mason, in the 1890s. Their popularity increased in the early 20th century, after the (American) Heinz company opened their first UK factories, and really took off in World War II, when their nutritional value was recognised and promoted by the Government.

As a Brit and a (sadly) bone idle one too, I love the 'full English fry up' (with some exceptions) but it's just too much of a bind to make one. If it's cooked by someone else then I'm all too eager to eat it. I spent 22yrs in the RAF and it was provided for breakfast every day (amongst other things) and I'm ashamed to say that every day I filled my boots so to speak. I'm not overly keen on fresh tomatoes cut in half and grilled, but strangely I prefer tinned tomatoes. And as for black pudding, in my opinion it has no place whatsoever on a breakfast plate - in fact as far as I'm concerned, it has no place in society full stop. But I will concede that on that last point there will be many many who'll disagree.

Hahaha, yes in my "British Foods You Should NOT Try" video I did talk about Black Pudding, and got a lot of people commenting who love the stuff! Very interesting take on our breakfasts. But did you know a traditional full English breakfast would contain black pudding, and/or (if you could afford them) bacon and sausage. Always an egg, mushrooms and fried potatoes - usually leftover boiled spuds from last night's dinner, fried in a bit of fat. But it always contained potatoes. Brits lived on them once upon a time. Today, the breakfast hash brown is a nod to this. It was never served with beans or tomatoes. Or orange juice or coffee, or a sprig of parsley as it is today!!! And if ain't got HP sauce on it, I ain't eating it!

For my taste I think that a full English should definitely include black pudding, fried bread and preferably white pudding. Unusually for a Brit I think baked beans are possibly the most horrendous things and the best place for them has a bin liner in it. I also don't get why hash browns have become a "thing" with a full English not that I dislike them but not on a traditional English breakfast. I think they have become a thing since McDonalds came to the UK and have them in their breakfasts.

Whenever I had scrambled egg on toast as a lad - which was about three times a week for 15 years - my mum ( RIP ) would break two or three eggs into a pan, throw 50ml of milk into it and start vigorously stiring with a fork or wooden spoon. I don`t know how she got away with it by the laws of physics ( making it stick together ) but she did. Now I do it my way. 4 eggs, 50g of salted butter and no milk - on hot buttered toast. Nobody in the world has made better scrambled egg on toast than I. Oh, and my spaghetti bolognese - not even the Romans nor any Italian living on the Adriatic coast has made a better bog than me. `Last time I made scrambled egg on toast I added some cut and lightly fried mini tomatoes and a sprinkling of black pepper. But of course one may chuck whatever one likes into it. Bacon, mushrooms.... sprinkle a tiny bit of lemmon into the pan, whatever.... try anything to see if it works. If it doesn`t, at least you`ll become a fast learner. I did.

Baked beans as part of a full English is a bit of an anathema to me...it clashes with the egg yolk...but by choice I wouldn't eat full English without the fried bread and hash browns too...I'd often add beefburgers, fried black pudding or white pudding (hogs pudding) too...but thereagain I did eat it every morning for over thirty years, and did have a heart attack or two at the end...but hey, life's short enough without forgoing all the pleasures... Nowadays, post-retirement, (yes I made it!), and approaching seventy I tend to rise late... I reserve the fry up for special occasions and tend to stick to either kippers or kedgeree for a "brunch"... I have eaten breakfast in England - and regretted it. I think it makes a difference if you eat at a nice hotel versus the local cafe. That would be the case in the US as well, but in the US I often enjoy breakfast at a little cafe. In England the common eggs and bacon were unbelievably tasteless. I felt nourished, but that was it. I am looking forward to changing my impression the next time I am there.

I agree that you need to go to a good place... like a B&B with TripAdvisor reviews that rave about their amazing breakfast! I have found the fresh fruit and veg to be even better quality in Europe (unless you have your own garden here in the US!) so that is a key part of a great meal, IMHO.

You absolutely must take local advice ...if you want anything...for instance.....i don't think I know an establishment in England that can make a decent cup of tea....if you want that you've got to make it yourself..and you've got to have a lot of experience....most places will just give you a cheap tea bag and some hot water...and expect you to sort it out....im sorry but it's a bit more scientific than that..

Most bacon is slightly salted or smoked. No maple syrup , brown sugar or anything else. Most American food has too much sugar or additives of one kind or another. I miss plain food, especially boiled potatoes.
