@elparty1

lolololollolo Great Video.. I want to clear some things up. This is very important, because understanding this just right,,, is very important. Thoughts exist. As you have clearly stated before. 'You' the ego are a compilation of thoughts. So 'you' the ego exists. It is an illusion because it is not what it seems. It is not in control. it is only a thought. It is not a separate entity from thought controlling thinking and everything else. But as a thought that it is,, it exists as thought. So in order for you to accurately talk about this,, don't contradict what you have stated in the past. Stop saying 'You' (the ego) doesn't exist. And start saying that,,, it's not what it seems. Another point,,, It would be helpful if YOU did some psychology research and explain to the viewer why the 'You' and 'I' developed and evolved in human beings. Why it's a tool of socializing and interaction.

A thought exists which points to nothing. Like Santa Claus. Santa doesn't exist but the thought of him does.
@elparty1
9 жыл бұрын
Actualized.org I think your Santa Claus analogy is an inaccurate comparison. Santa Claus is not a necessity for a child's development in modern society. The self is an integral construction of a modern social brain. Understanding it's misrepresentational nature helps avoid its neurotic short comings but until you fully understand it's evolutionary purpose, you won't be able to reconcile your ever lasting struggles with becoming 'fully enlightened'. First lets clarify well known facts about reality and the brain. As far as ‘reality’ goes,, the brain has no direct contact with reality. It constructs representation of the signals it receives through the senses. They are CONSTRUCTED REPRESENTATIONS of everything you consider ‘Real’. Everything you see, hear, feel, smell, taste is actually a reconstructed representation by your brain of the actual phenomenon. The sense of self is also a construct. A functional construct. It’s a very convenient way of abstracting important information and producing an output which allows us to interact. We couldn’t interact in a parallel system. We have to create individuals talking to individuals and that allows and facilitates this interaction. It’s a very useful way of summarizing the multitude of influences which are actually playing into our decision making processes and who we are. So,,, it exists as a functional construct used for interaction. Not as the center of experience. An illusion, because it's not what it seems. Here's an exercise for you. Try making a video and communication with 'your' audience without referring to individuals. Don't use the words 'You', 'Your' , 'I', 'my' nor 'mine''. Good luck

A question Leo asked of us which no one has tackled yet is, where do the the voices come from? My take, at this moment, is: I see them as all the wisdom of my ancestors. These are the things that kept my great, great, great... grandparents alive long enough to reproduce and bring up offspring healthy enough to reproduce. Some of the thoughts can be very modern/philosophical [like where do these thoughts originate] and some are very primitive [why has that guy made eye contact with me for so long!] but all the thoughts are there. I've noticed even before I speak the thought of saying those words kind of flashes for a brief second before I decide to say them... and sometimes I don't. Perhaps I'm the thing that is choosing which thoughts to give attention to and act on? Your thoughts guys and gals?

I'm having trouble with this, I've felt detached from my physical body for about 9 years now (22), I have a fairly large problem with my identity, I am born male but physically feel as a trapped woman, I have no thoughts on male and female societal roles it's not as if I want to be girly or manly. So in that respect when I look inwards in attempt to dissolve myself I'm torn between my male self Tyler and my female self Inari, when I dissolve them I become trapped in a sort of paradox where I feel like my mind or consciousness is stuck nowhere and wants to choose the female side of me but I of course come back to being male. Am I to abandon my identity I feel subconsciously (Inari) aswell as the one I physically and consciously know I am currently (Tyler). I understand it's a sort of prison trap but it kind of feels as if I walk out of the prison but when I step out I fallback into the same cell behind me. I understand this might be a complex and multifaceted problem. Any thoughts?

In nihilsm it's like you dwell in a place of holding a conceptual framework of life that defines it, and blocks the real direct experience that blows it away. I know because at times during my approach to enlightenement many of the ideas i used to guide myself were nihilistic, and if staying in a state of "knowing" the freedom and immensity within and of life would not be known, the true reality. When absolute not knowing was practiced, the actual true eyes would return, and pure life itself was back, and it could be known without thought, and known as the thing I always wanted and was looking for my whole life. Now holding onto this and making it permanent is very hard, and not something I have finished yet, but once you get a glimpse and know what it is, I don't believe you can turn back or find some other substitute, you have to finish. Good luck to us all.

Leo, What about the 5 pillars of life, and self actualized people, what about studying?, you said you were thirsty for knowledge, and understanding what life is about.. I am currently studying and without motivation to do so, because it is apparently pointless, I am afraid (or my ego is afraid) that studying is just learning stories in the end. I am confused, Leo, I can conceptualise what you`re saying, but practically I see you and I don`t understand then what is the point for you to get everything you´ve gotten so far, and to wake up and go to the gym, and making your videos every week, and work, are you saying that we move like "by instinct"? also what is the point of visualisations if the future does`t exist, I know you will just say that this is my ego talking, but if I don`t trick my ego I will be a lazy-ass person, and what about happiness leo? did you say that we had to pursue then joy in life? what do you mean by joy? is it pleasure? or the "shreas" happiness you talked about before. (worst part is I think I have the answer to it all, but i am just scared, I think I need a lot of work :l)

Pamela Zamora Well for me, hope you don't mind me interrupting, I feel it's a call-to-arms to embrace it all. I'm not done with my self-help studying, but I'm not giving up enlightenment either. If it feels right & will allow me to pursue my ideals, then I will do it.
@bertrancourt

Pamela Zamora Here i think the joy he's talking about. Like Leo I'm also looking to find enlightment. I had the privilege to live an "out of the ego" experience that last 3hours and the joy you feel is hard to fully explain. It's total peace of mind with a feeling of complete safety, nothing to fear for the futur because you know that whatever you can do right now to create a better futur, you will do it without having to think about it. You no longer have any past you are simply the pure joy of being life here and now. To show you how powerful that joy is, those 3hours kept me alive for the past 17 years, it's light year beyond simple pleasure. Be careful about the ego trap cos if you try to trick your ego you are actually playing his game, he wants you to think think think. Alot of the question you are asking is actually your ego trying to find enlightment so that you believe you are on the path. Try from now on to look from the perspective that what you TRULLY are is already enlighten, you're just thinking you are a person(ego).
@noodles818

Pamela Zamora You need to start meditating regularly, if you can't or won't I suggest you cease to intellectually travel down these roads in your mind. I see things differently. What you say about the process of enlightenment and dissolution of the ego is accurate in my experience but I think you're excluding causality and purpose in your take on reality. Here's mine: Chaos is all around us, but it's only of the world and the effect of distorted and egoically individualized perceptions competing to acquire what they see as fulfilling. Chaos is of our making. When we look up into the cosmos and down into the minute building blocks at the quantum level, we see an obvious order to things. As above, so below. As within, so without. This, to me, reveals an intelligent source that is just outside of our immediate awareness. This unified source is all there is and although it remains apart from duality and is, therefore, pre-personal. God is the only perceiver, and the perceiver can grow through experience so therein lies the purpose of life which is the perceptual expansion of Source through experience. The infinite variety of experiences gained through so many individualized perceptions from within a dualistic and material context, offers immense growth value as experience so opposed to the static stillness of unity. For me, denying the existence of the intelligent source Source of the one energy being variously vibrated into every element that makes up creation, is leaving out everything including it's purpose in all this! Everything is OF the one Source. Upon returning to unity, the illusion of the individual is lost. Then, the self no longer exists but there is still so much to experience as conscious sparks of this Source along our journey from the dense dark physical through the far lighter and illuminated etheric levels of existence prior to its complete dissolution. The veil drops slowly and enlightenment may come in great waves but it's an ongoing process until reintegration with Souce. Certain miraculous experiences we're given, do cover more ground than others, but we are far from full enlightenment when considering all the growth we still have yet to attain after physical existence is no longer required. We continue to learn and expand in spirit form. There's no ego in seeing ourselves as sparks of the source we prepare ourselves to dissolve back into. I'm not afraid of the idea that ultimately, outside of this deliciously painful illusion of separateness, there is no you and there is no me. Ego isn't talking me out of your take on things. It's only a different take on reality: one I've actively developed on my own with skeptical open-minded discernment for over 20 years ...but isn't such divided perspective the very challenge and beauty of duality? Belief systems are like a boat that gets you to a destination. There are many different boats but once you arrive, the type of boat that got you there is of little importance.
@frnsh9

I have had this idea that makes to much sense to me for a long while. We dont have free will because everything that we feel, decide, take action, and everything and anything is the result of the whole detailed process that happened before that. All the sensations, feelings, memories, goals, built personality, environment and all and all. Like in programming, that moving color on the web page does not happen until you write that whole codes and almost each part affects it somehow to make it this way. if there is something wrong there is always a reason or source you can find or it exists but you can't reach it with your limited computer or the system of your own eyes. Life is just a movie or as you say story that is building the sources and reasons to make thing happen and go forward. I thought it this way and it has helped me be able to accept many of those tricky questions that make us all feel resistant. Like being no self, being nothing, etc.

So physical objects exists, and reality exists. However the way things look and feel are perceived and interpreted by our senses and minds so they are "processed" and probably not accurate representation of how things actually are. A lot of mambo jambo mainly directed to people already in a cult or dogma like religion or new age. A truly scientific mind ALREADY knows that his concept of a self does not literally exist; why?; simply because we are practically robots or molecules that are no more alive than a rock. Proof from his own words from his faq 1 at ~10min mark: "not that we're saying that your physical body doesn't exist your physical body exists [..] what we're saying is that the thing that you think is controlling and looking at the physical body [..] doesn't exist". If you want to be truly "enlightened", cut the superfluous crap taking 1 hour per youtube video, be scientific, stop believing in any dogma and realize humans are robots made of simple molecules.

I was observing all the negative thoughts I have and realized 90% of my thoughts are about my identity itself or my identity in relation to others only 10% of my thoughts were any use e.g I need to pick something up before going to work. So I just watched my mind like waiting for a rabbit to pop out of a hole in the ground, the negative thoughts were all traumatic experiences I had in the past something someone has said or done to me that has damaged my self image. As soon as the thought had arisen I fought to not identify myself with it and it went away, then a different one came up and I did it again, the more times I practiced this the easier it got. Which gave me a bizzare feeling wondering what these thoughts actually are if I'm not thinking them. Am I even in my body? I asked myself, If I'm not experiencing something does it even exist? I wrote it down so I wasn't thinking about it and turning it into a theory. I didn't like this feeling it was unsettling, it wasn't painful like identifying with negative thoughts, but at least that was familiar, I couldn't turn back from this feeling it just sits there, negative thoughts are still there I can hear them perfectly well I'm just loosing interest in listening to them.The past and the future takes actual mental effort in order to think about the natural tendency to think about these things seems to be loosing its grasp. Is the fear good?

mark davison For me, that sounds like a self-esteem issue. Everyone has bad things happen to them in life, usually. Some may feel minor by comparison, but to the person receiving it, it can feel like the end of the world, even if it's trivial. I think you just need to forget the past. Leo's video from last week has the exercises for meditation on forgetting the past & the future. Maybe that could help you out? You can waste a great deal of your life dwelling on the past when it has no bearing on today, or even your future. Tony Robbins says "The past doesn't equal the future." So what happened in the Way Back is no longer a concern for you.

Leo I finally understand whats behind all my emotional issues and negative thinking, I don't like to feel weak. Thats the problem right there, I only have a small build and if someone wanted too could kill me in an instant, so what do I do when someone mistreats me, I act submissive and don't stand up for myself, this is why I get angry all the time and imagine my identity hurting people and then getting depressed about my situation. The thing is I don't actually want to hurt them, just be strong enough to not take abuse. Will enlightenment help me with this emotional problem and How can I make a relationship work If I'm not strong enough to protect her, it wouldn't take much to kill me, I'm talking like a single punch. Is this why my previous relationships have gone sour because I'm weak

Well , when I think to be totally right about one theory ,I'm forced to believe that everybody else, who don’t think the same way ,is wrong.. Not only this attitude is very presumptuous and disagreeable (probably is disagreeable also to who is using it) but also it pushes me to be closed-minded, because if I open myself mentally I might see that I am wrong, so I wear blinders to be right ..and I stop proceeding , every day I find myself responding to the problems in the same way .From my perspective It is Always better reasoning as a philosopher when I talk , Wich means using "the thought " especially in these time that where we are Learning so much interesting theory. Nobody is right , everybody , everybody open doors .

We do physically excist, our mind/thougts thinks but it means nothing in reality that do excist, because thoughts/ourselves isn't there, okay.. But how you wanna live? Do you wanna live being enlightenment? Or would you like living in your own world with your thoughts, feelings, good or bad.. isn't that more precious then thinking you're not there? What kind of life do you have when your thinking being enlightenmenton instead of being/living on your own? what do you love most? Sure we can be enlightenment eventually, but what brings you that? How can you feel free or happy or excited when you ''thinking'' anywhere but your own, or better when you do not think at all because ther is NO you?? Are we just illusions that can look in the outside of reality? Just watching and so do nothing about it? The benefits of being enlightenment are that your not ever feeling depressed or feeling any anger or grieve or all that bad feelings in all situations, because of anyons ego that isn't there, but on the other side, you also DO NOT even feel excitement, happy or other good thoughts, so why is enlightenment so important? So ''my'' question/thought: How can you feel happy or free when you're not even there in reality? There is no YOU! So why should i choose to accept the treu story about ourselves that isn't there instead of living my own life with my own terms? Is it really so hard to live in a illussion that makes you happy? Is it really so hard to make love, make happiness and growing within your goal? Life isn't fair, but thats why we all can take it as we want to, and THINK as we want to, through our EGO! Maybe i am too far from thinking in enlightenment, but i obviously do not see te ''great'' benefits off it, so instead i living my own world as anyone should.

Actualized.org What do you think of Csikszentmihalyi's idea that self's evolution should follow the principles of differentiation and integration? It seems to make sense with regard to Enlightenment. As you get Enlightened, you, on the one hand, lose the ego with its boundaries and become one with reality (or you embrace your nothingness and become one with nothingness), which is integration. But at the same time, this process frees massive amounts of mental and physical energy that can be directed towards any kind of experience/activity that resonates with your new-found true self, which is differentiation.

It would seem that the videos provide conflicting advice, life purpose... It's a journey that you have taken and your current place is due to the journey. People taking up the advice part way of your journey may be challenging and confusing. Some good insights and excellent ideas but views early on conflict heavily with later. Very interesting, we all have to ascertain what section of time we have to jump on.

I am very sorry to those who take offense for what I am about to say here. "A child of the world will always believe whatever version of the whole truth that is presented by any apparent teacher". The individual here in this video has already capped all who 'follow' him and listen to him. ** He IS (by his own admission) a student of this and not someone who is in any other position to speak of it. A true student of this field of investigation will see the difference for themselves. For any who do not question this for yourself, then you TOO have capped yourself. This is an irresponsible use of this knowledge in this form as the one who 'leads' all who follow this, is a student trying to provide commentary on something that clearly, he doesn't understand enough to convey in its whole form without reservation or discrimination. However 'simple' people want it all 'explained', a child is still a child, no matter what they say they "know". It'll be interesting to observe who pays attention to this.

*I don't know if your opinion has changed, but free will is necessary for consciousness.* Without free will there is no consciousness. Without free will the simulation would be over as soon as it started as there would be no *content*, nothing to simulate when you yourself are feeding in the outcomes. Just because there are things you can't control (you mentioned thoughts), doesn't mean you have no capacity for decision making. What determines if something is conscious or not is: "Does it have a decision space from which it can make decisions?". The larger the decision space, the more complex the organism and more challenging the life.

If reality simply is, without anyone to percieve it or think about it, then how was the illusion of self created? How can the ego create the illusion of its existence, if the ego itself doesn't exist? Or in other words, how could i ever become non-enlightened in the first place, and now have to actually work for enlightenment? (not sure if my point gets through, sorry:)
@ActualizedOrg

Very easy, the perception identifies with itself. The illusion can all boil down to the word "I". I is said, and takes on a life of its own because I does exist as a phenomena. The phenomena of I is mistaken for something more than it is. It's just a word! But you think it's really you! It's like a sick joke!

It's like, there is no meaning on the level of words or thoughts, dwelling in words and thoughts makes everything seem to have no real meaning. People wonder about the meaning of life, but in the enlightened state it can be sensed thoughtlessly and immensely beyond all possibility and imagining of the mind. It's way better than you THINK, but to extract that into thought and thinking the thought is important will take away all of the true meaning, meaning so far beyond meaning the word meaning doesn't really apply. Almost like meaning is what you think you want, but it was just a substitute for something you don't even know about yet. Like imagine meaning as being 2 dimensional, and the true thoughtless experience of life including like a 3 dimensional meaning.

The Free Will thing is the most exciting part of this. It's funny that people don't get it. Have you heard Sam Harris talking about it? Your own experience shows that you have no free will.. the very notion just makes absolutely no sense. Beautiful stuff.

NIHILISM: If you want to say that Enlightenment states that life has no meaning, then you just crossed the line into a philosophy. You said this when you described the difference between Enlightenment and Nihilism. I think you meant to say that Enlightenment doesn't try to define the meaning of life, it just lives life. Enlightenment doesn't say that life has meaning, or doesn't. It recognizes that no human can ever define what life is, so it just enjoys what it is to the extent that it can.

Leo where does God fit in all this? I would have thought that you would addressed this kind of question. "We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter." That's coming from Max Planck one of the greatest scientist ever and he was talking about God. Do you agree that the ego is what separates us from the force that created us and has created a false sense of self? Is spiritual enlightenment the reconnection back to God? I think these are the most important questions to be answered.

So I kind told myself that there is just no conscience theres like no "hes" or "shes" waiting in life to get into a body and be born. Its like this conscience that u think is unique but its actually not. Its this illusion that you are unique and you are you bt actually you are not you and there is no yous here in the world... any concept of you is part of the brain, like a memory, when the brain dies your memories/ your ego/self dies too, hell it can be lost before death, with severe brain injury or disease, so the idea of you living on after death is unlikely, since it was created in the brain, and the brain ceases to function anymore. the next hope theists have is that your consciousness/awareness with continue after life, but theres no evidence of this, if they find like I think they will that consciousness is a part of brain function (rather than something we tap into in outer space) then that too will die when your brain dies death = ceasing to exist most likely, the other alternative is that our ego and consciousness will somehow be uploaded onto a spirit self, and we will live forever, seems a bit preposterous doesn't it? especially since there is no evidence of spirits either, also doesn't it seem like wishful thinking? Like its our instincts playing up because all they want us to do is live to survive?

평화 사랑 행복 연민 Death becomes irrelevant. What death basically means is the end of your self-continuity, but in an 'enlightened' (I really dont like this word) state of mind there is no self. It makes no sense to talk about the continuity of a self that is just an illusion anyway. Everything is just a single process and the process continues just as it did before. leaxy Sit down and try to stop thinking for 30 seconds. Do it now. See, you can't! So you actually have no control over your thoughts. So what then do you control? Your body? Not that either. All you've got are thoughts about you controlling your body, and you don't control those thoughts either. You are like a robot who's tricked herself into believing you have control by simply saying and believing, "Look, I have control! I really do! Look at me! I'm in control! Look!" But those are just stories, not reality. Start noticing how this is happening in your awareness right now. You have no control of which thought will come up next for you. Look, we can easily demonstrate this: don't think of a purple elephant. Now, did you choose to think of a purple elephant? No! It happened outside your control. See, your thoughts are just unconscious reactions to external stimuli. You are constantly reacting to stuff without even realizing it.
