The first time I watched this movie (today), some of my friends had already seen it, so they knew what would happen. So one of them told me that Tewkesbury would die, and I was so sad I literally teared up, and movies never make me cry. I got so mad at her when he grasped Enola’s hand, because I thought he was dead fs.

With the way the ammunition fired, I’d say that was a trapshooting gun, used to hit clay pigeons (back then real pigeons 😬) from a great distance. The longest distance someone can shoot in competition nowadays is 25 yards away from the trap house, which then shoots the targets up and out even further. If a shooter hits the target, it disappears almost instantly, so the ammunition has to be traveling at great speeds. With how close Tewksbury and his grandmother were, I’m not surprised he got blown back like he did, he probably had some bruises after that night too.

Actually yes. It would stop a bullet. It would hurt like hell and you may or may not break some ribs, but it acts that same way as a kevler vest. The reason they stopped using metal armor is because it is to expensive to equip for each person in an army.
@henrylivingstone2971
2 жыл бұрын
@@marystrobel5436 While in this particular case yes the cuirass would stop the “bullet”, your reasoning isn’t correct. Historically by the 18th century plate armor or full body armor was slowly waning in popularity because of several reasons like you’ve mentioned it was very expensive (though plate armor was never for common infantry men and even in earlier periods, metal armor was reserved for the elite and the nobility and normal infantrymen were equipped with leather armor), also because it was heavy and because contemporary weapons such as high powered fire arms could penetrate through metal. Now logistically your comparison to Kevlar is just plain wrong. Kevlar is made up of several layers of fibers that disperse energy and stop the rotation of the bullet. Plate armor would’ve done the opposite, since a flat plane cannot absorb energy as well as fibrous layers, heavy impact would penetrate through and as was common during early 19th century warfare in which the cuirass still featured, bullets would often shatter the plate armor and send shrapnel into the body. So no, plate armor is not the same as a Kevlar vest. But concerning this scene, when you see Tewkesbury the bullet impact is scattered and considering the type of gun, the projectile was most likely bird shot. Used for the hunting of game birds like pheasants and waterfowl. This in itself isn’t likely to kill a human being although it could seriously maim them but in this case, the plate armor would’ve been sufficient to protect him, so you’d be right in that point. But had it been buckshot or any large game bullet, the cuirass wouldn’t have been enough to stop a bullet and he most likely would’ve been shot and had shrapnel embedded into his body.

Actually yes it would. especially a weapon manufactured in the eighteen hundreds. Gunpowder was much lower grade in those days consequentially the muzzle velocity of most firearms manufactured before 1930 (I think) was significantly lower than that of a modern fire arms. It's why Break-action revolvers like the Scofield or the Webley Mark IV went out of style despite the fact that in terms of reload speed and handling they're superior to side-break revolvers. Modern bullets use higher grade smokeless powder, the resulting gas pressure when you fire the gun puts put too much strain on the hinging pin. at the bottom causing it to snap and the gun to come apart. Also, stately homes aren't known for their arsenals in england at that time you might have a few revolvers, some antique muskets maybe an heirloom flintlock or two from the days when duelling was still a thing lying around but a double barrelled shotgun like that is a hunting tool usually for small game. Rabbits, ducks quail pheasants. That kind of thing. They use Birdshot, not Buckshot. So smaller pellets combined with a lower muzzle velocity plus a piece of.... seventeenth century steel armour (I think) Odds are he'd have three or four cracked ribs, be rather severely winded and probably knocked himself senseless when he hit his head on that marble floor so... maybe a concussion. Odds of survival: mid-ninetieth percentile barring complications brought on by the possible concussion. *phew*
@DocDarkness

It would stop lead shot from a low velocity weapon like a shotgun.
@theenigmaticmrwu
Жыл бұрын
From that range and the apparent size of the pellets judging from the dents in the armor, it is likely that the breastplate would have protected him from the shotgun blast. A slug would have gone through, maybe even some of the larger buckshot pellets but not this. He would be more in danger from the spread of the pellets getting him in the face and neck than from the shot penetrating 2 or 3 mm's of steel.
