I asked my mom once, why she stayed with my dad for as long as she did and she said that “she didn’t want us to grow up without a father”. My dad was toxic and abusive with my mom, siblings and I. I would hate to be home because all they would do is argue and then he’d take it out on us. I resented my mom for so long and low key still do when I remember everything my dad put us thru. I wish my mom would’ve left him sooner than she did and for her to raise us by herself. So as a daughter who grew up in a toxic household, I can tell you that your daughter will appreciate that you left him now for the sake of your sanity and happiness. She may not understand it now or anytime soon, but she will one day and she will thank you for not staying in a toxic situation. Us as mothers need to snap out of that old school mentality when ppl say “we need to stay for our kids”. If it’s not real, healthy, love, we don’t need it, kids or not and we can’t let anyone make us feel guilty for walking away and we cannot set that example for our kiddos. You’re doing the right thing, if YOU are not happy, your child won’t be happy. They see and feel what you are.

I feel you.. I wish my mother left my dad 15 years ago, she’s given her life to him and does not deserve to die by his side.. she’s 53 years old and is still with him.. it’s sad that one day I will look back and see nothing good in him ever.. growing up he was a druggie ,my mom should’ve left him the first time he laid his hands on my big sister at the time she was 14… but she stayed smh he would punch my sister in the face I saw it all and then pushed my mom ,I have been traumatized..and then me at the age 14 he became addicted to meth and we ended up losing our home I then turned 15 ,I was homeless and all my family was seperated we didn’t see eachother for months and I lost my dog that year my dad accidentally ran him over because he was not in the right state of mind.. my mom has always been blinded by love..it’s so sad he treats her like shit and a servant.. my poor 14 year old brother treats my mom wrong too because he has seen my dad how he treats her and even said that he can do it too since he does it.. we also had lost a second apartment when I was 16.. i became a drug addict ,I was depressed ,I would hurt myself because that’s what ecstasy does.. it causes depression afterwards.. I left dark purple bruises on my arms and face..I felt no pain until the next day when it wore off…I got pregnant that year I lost everything and found out at 16 and I went through postpartum depression afterwards and when I was giving birth my dad was at home abusing my little brother and I believe that’s when he lost his innocence and started hanging out with the wrong crowd and kept getting locked up.. he’s so little but it hurts me because that could’ve been prevented. It’s crazy ,but definitely never stay just because you want a family or give them a father.. it saves your children’s lives even if it hurts..it’s for the best..

I also resent my mom a little because we had so much fun before she met my stepdad and after she did it was nonstop arguing and toxic masculinity. Growing up watching that made me move out as soon as I turned 18 and never wanted to come home from school or being friends when I was younger. I totally understand her. Yes, we know we are capable to successfully be a solo parent and then some. But it sucks. What woman doesn’t want to have an amazing partner during the birth? To fall in love with your partner when you get to see them become an amazing parent? To be a team for the blessing that you were so excited for? Instead we’re fighting the battle of learning to be new parents AND dealing with such drama, pain and loss. You do not give the same to your child when you’re going thru so much and it sucks. My baby (now 8) cried all night every night until she was almost 8 months. I was losing my shit straight up. Why did she though?! Because my stress was so profound. She felt it all. It wasn’t until I took a trip and felt the peace, is when she finally cried less and slept more. I now have an amazing partner that she loves thankfully but I still feel the guilt that she doesn’t live a normal life and has such a shitty donor as an image of a father. But yes Elsy, better days are to come. The road just fucking sucks.

This situation is a perfect example of the phrase “don’t get with a bad bitch if you can’t handle one”. He couldn’t stand that his girl was successful, motivated, beautiful, and smart while he was a bum & a troll. And speaking as someone who’s 24 and has lived w parents who dislike each other my whole life, that haven’t and prob never will separate, I just wanna tell you you did the right thing. I wish my parents would’ve separated so I wouldn’t have had to be in the crossfire of all their fights, and see what a bad relationship is, cuz it affected me and how I went about w my relationships. In the end whatever you gotta do to give yourself and your baby the best life, you just gotta do. Don’t let “oh but I want a picture perfect family” or “oh I don’t wanna be a failure” get into your head cuz it’s not true. A man/dad isn’t necessary to complete a family but either way I know someday you’ll meet someone who will treat you so well and treat ehlani like his own.

You are too young to understand that a father is NECESSARY in raising a child. Many adults of broken homes end up needing therapy for the lack of a father figure being around. I am a product of that myself and know first hand. My parents would have volatile fights and though I’m glad that they separated because the fights were bad, to deny that having my dad around was difficult for my siblings and I would be a lie. Elsy needs to do what’s best for her and her child, but I pray that her and her ex seek counseling, because nothing compares to raising children in a two parent household. This is what happens when you don’t wait on God to send you the partner he has in store for you. It’s not too late though, she can repent and ask Jesus to less her in her life.

The same thing happened to me. I left my bd for 6 months and I spent those 6 months crying out to God every night. I went to church.. I seeked God. I read the bible.. I started working out, I opened up a business. . And after 6 months of me getting strong and finding my identity and anchoring myself in God... we did go on a family cruise.... that was scheduled before we broke up. ... and God ended up rewarding my 6 months of putting God first... by lining things up for us to get married on the cruise. So yeah we got married and came back from this family trip a married couple. I begged God to change him while we were broken up and God ended up telling me " Im actually here to change you." Biggest plot twist.. Now we're celebrating 10 years in October and we just had our fourth baby. My husband was an atheist.. now he loves God. God has changed us sooo much. And I'm glad I turned to God to learn how to truly fight for my family. I didn't have a dad either and my mom wasn't in my life much either. God showed me how much baggage I was carrying into my relationship and my bd as well. GOD healed me, humbled me, transformed my whole life. I'm telling you Elsy... if he can do it for me.. he can do it for you. I'll leave you with this scripture 2 chronicles 7:14 ... read it.. it changed my life. Also I'm just now learning how God didn't design us women to carry all the burden of providing and raising kids by ourselves. Yes we can do it. But that's why u have a lot of women depressed and tired. Yes you can get rid of the weight of your bad right now but your just exchanging it for other weights. That we weren't designed to carry. Imma be praying for you bc I know exactly how you feel sweet girl. I've been there. Message me if you're ever interested in hearing more about what I went through. A lot of relationships fail bc we're "fighting" for our relationship all wrong.

As someone who was a child of a broken family, please don’t stay together in a toxic relationship just for the kids. Children observe and normalize behaviors of their parents and that will only fuck up their perception of what a healthy relationship should look like when they’re adults

Preach this!! 💯 same here I can totally relate. Grew up in a toxic environment and I thought it was normal and tolerated toxic relationships with men and I’m 27 almost 28. I wished my parents weren’t together. Now they aren’t and my parents are healthier apart and I wish parents didn’t stay together in a toxic relationship. You’ll be a better parent if you put yourself first and have healthy relationships with yourself and in romantic relationships. In the long run your child will understand and have less trauma and not repeat the cycle.

Even though you didn’t disclose much, we could read between the lines and trust me - us women completely understand you. It's the enemy trying to blame the Lord. He warned me & did not listen. After breaking up with him, and having a relationship with God MAN my life changed! I have never been so happy as I am now.
