This is the first Enphase battery, 1.2 kWh capacity, and it is basically obsoleted by new Encharge batteries (3.36 kWh and 10.5 kWh versions). It connects to the main panel rather than the IQ combiner box. It operates as follows. “Charging and Discharging The charging and discharging functions are controlled by the IQ Envoy as follows: Charging: The IQ Battery typically charges during daylight hours and when the solar production is greater than the home consumption. The IQ Battery can also be programmed to charge from the electric grid at night under certain conditions. Discharging: The IQ Battery discharges power only to service local loads. It does not discharge power through the utility meter onto the electric grid. The IQ Battery discharges for use by the home if all of the following occur: • The consumption exceeds the production • The actual time of day is after the peak start time, if time of use is configured • The batteries are not fully discharged. If the batteries are fully discharged, then they must recharge from the PV system before they can discharge again.”

The 3 batteries combined supplies 3.6kwh, which is perfect for my application (sunset to sunrise). And the size is also very beneficial for my application. Become less ignorant!

Sorry, we're based in Australia and the Enphase Encharge system isn't due for release here till early 2022. We'll post some installation videos when it becomes available.

Can you show how it's connected to the panel? I'd like to do a self install. Thanks!

The AC Battery is not connected directly to the panels, its wired into the main switchboard. Installation instructions are available for download from the Enphase website. Electrical wiring should always be completed by a licensed electrician. Feel free to get in touch if you'd like more information.

Hi I just got a price for a solar, which include IQ7 Microinverters and a Envoys S Standard, would the Envoys S Standard capable of connecting this Battery to ? or do I need to go to the metered Envoy S ?

You will need to go with the Envoy S Metered if you want to add batteries in the future.

The price for these is way way way way way toooooo high!!! I can get a more KWh from 2, $100 dollar deep cycle batteries (that's $200 plus tax) from the tractor store in town near me. Two of them last me 2 years easily! That is less than half the cost of your, little enphase box thing..lol, and that is if they would really even last the expected ten years. I for one don't think so, because most lithium batteries can't make it past 3 years before beginning to degrade and lose charge capacity.

Too small capacity and too expensive!

Enphase AC Batteries are ideal for small - medium residential applications where safety, performance and reliability are important considerations. In batteries, like most other things, cost is usually an indicator of quality. Cheap batteries don't have the same chemistry, performance, warranty, etc. as the Enphase AC Battery. Enphase AC Batteries are not the right choice for people wanting large, cheap energy storage systems.
