It's so cool to see how people are growing the science around fungi, and how more and more people are becoming interested in this stuff. I think these authors should be very proud for helping to popularize this science. I appreciate you leaving a comment, too!

Thanks for the review. I have this one on my e-reader, so maybe this will spur me to get to it. My formal education was in chemistry, so fungi are fascinating to me from that perspective; many fungi boast quite the enzymatic toolkit (not to mention some wild secondary metabolites). For some reason, I've always been particularly impressed by the capacity to degrade lignin. Glad the book gets into symbioses, another fascinating aspect of many fungi.

I’m curious about the newly released illustrated version. I heard that it is abridged aka shortened to make space for all the photos. Wondering why this was done, and what text was omitted. Planning to buy one of these versions but not sure which to buy now! I want both the full text AND the photos, do I need to buy both versions?!
