I always liked this element of Enterprise. Show the early starship as the underdog it is. Force them to use unconventional techniques to beat a superior foe. I wish there were more of this in this show; instead it often felt like Voyager with Scott Bakula in Kate Mulgrew's place. Phaser fights and "hull plating" being no different than shields in practice.

I always wondered this. Then I finally sew Picard use a machine gun to kill a borg. Back in the early 1990s, I was wondering, "Gee, could that transporter not be able to beam an old fashioned nuclear weapon onto the other ship right about now? And then Stargate did just that.

@princecharon, No, it wasn't too late, and the show's true ratings (taking into account metrics just becoming recognized) illustrate that. Of course, the pos Moonves didn't care about that and was only too willing to use any justification to administer the coup de grace to a franchise he loathed. Of course, a decade later, when it suited him, he cynically brought the brand back to save his floundering streaming service, making sure the new product would be the corrupted abomination we've seen over the last 7 years (save Picard's final season).

I figure this tactic worked because the Klingons were too arrogant, thinking the NX class vessel was no match for them so no shields were even bothered to be put up by the D5. Hence, the grappler was able to be engaged and once that happened, the shield grid could not come online. While the D5 could have fired directly at the warp core of the Enterprise, the range of the vessel was too close and would have lead to destructive forces on the D5 since its shield grid could not be activated. All it could do was fire at the grappler points itself.
@DLordSadow
Ай бұрын
In fairness to the Klingons here, they couldn’t anticipate that the Grappler would be used in such a way. When it was activated, they might very well have mistaken that as part of Enterprise’s docking procedure. It wasn’t until it had latched onto a conduit on their port nacelle that they realized the danger. By then, it was too late.

I just don’t understand why so many people didn’t like this show… I guess it was a different time then, I was barely in high school when enterprise came out and although I vaguely remember it coming on late at night(because of the theme song) I didn’t actually watch it until streaming came out. I’m so glad I did because it was such a joy seeing the beginning of everything, from the prime directive, the red alert, Lt Reed inventing the force field, them getting use to the transporter. I do wanna point out that it came out around the time of 9/11 so I can say the world was occupied on more pressing issues. Nevertheless some way some how they need to do the romulan war and formation of the coalition of planets and the federation

It’s not that we didn’t like the show.. it just took longer to find its footing.. voyager gave us 7 of nine and deep space nine brought in worf and started the Dominion war.. Enterprise tried the xindi arch but it only started getting good in season 4.. Trully Enjoyed the mirror episode..

@@joshualuckyguy6205 I hear ya and understand, although I didn’t really have an issue with the xindi war I will admit it probably could have been written better but when ppl say that season 4 is when it really started to get good I have to disagree. I loved it from the first time they left space dock. I would always say let’s see what wacky situation archer and the crew will get into now. To me they acted like how a new to deep space naive species just starting out and learning as they go would do. Not sure why ppl were expecting more…

I actually preferred the first two seasons. It felt more like classic Star Trek to me: flying around the galaxy somewhat aimlessly and getting into new adventures every episode or two. Things got a lot more dark and serious when Earth was attacked which isn't what I expect from the franchise. It went from fun exploration of a new frontier to melancholy and a desire for vengeance.

I just rewatched season 4 and the 3 episodes where the romulans are trying to destabilize the alpha quadrant and seeing the early formation of the coalition of planets and eventually the federation gives me chills. Especially when the 4 powers are working together and the camera pans out and you have the big 4’s ships sitting there with enterprise. I still can’t believe they didn’t even try to go into the romulan war. Man I’m so desperate for it I might even accept new characters because obviously the original characters are probably too old now 😔

@SlimThrull

@@jakewhit9000 Weightless but not massless. The sheering force from dragging a ship that large while accelerating to 25% the speed of c in mere seconds would be enough to snap anything not made of unobtainium. I'm not even sure unobtainium would survive.
@JimmyBlether
3 ай бұрын
That's the thing though. If they were ever consistent with full Impulse being able to accelerate a ship that hard that fast then for all intents and purposes the ship would look like it would vanish if parked next to an opponent at ranges like this. Plus as the only speed limit in space is the speed of light itself, the ship would hit almost the speed of light (as its not attainable) in four seconds flat which kinda defeats the point of having sublight combat altogether (or battle lines such as in DS9).
@dogwalker666
3 ай бұрын
It depends on the story what 1/4 impulse actually means, But if we translate it to boats I can move a multi tonne canal boat myself, And 1/4 impulse in this story means 1/4 power. Like a ship telegraph.

Don't get me wrong this is much better than deep space nine, which might as well be just the adventures of the two kids a lot of the times and a bunch of dumb episodes, like the one where everybody just starts talking gibberish as a disease. Enterprise seems a lot better. But at the same time like the captain could have picked a much better captain could have picked a much better engineer. Like the engineers acting like a little b**** about having to stay back in the ship. Plain and simple, all the characters are immature. Nothing like John Luke Picard type shyt and riker.
