another solution to the limited number of addressable leds with the controller, is some led strips come in 3leds per "pixel". so you can still have a high led density for a nice diffused look, but 1/3 the amount of "pixels" needed to control. or just use a esp32+wled

For the lights specifically, I wanted a backlight surface to film tech on, similar to lightboxes artists use for tracing. That idea blended that with the desk project to minimise having to get something extra out and being easily ready to film at my desk. Lighting also played a key element for choosing V-Slot aluminium as the frame and then the Razer Controller came when I missed having lights react to games (that'll be further broken down in Part 3). Thanks for watching mate 🙂🤙

This was said already so I am not going to waffle on about WLED. What I am wondering though…why did you use the „waterproof“ LED strips with that clear silicone layer on them? No wonder those thicc bois don’t fit into the slots. The LED strips do not need to be waterproof, so why bother? The coating also doesn’t do anything as far as diffusion goes. Sure you can pry the clear coating off but that is such a hassle I wouldn’t want to do it. Is there a particular reason you chose this one instead of the one with no coating, or was this just a case of „I just took what was available“?
@camshand
10 ай бұрын
haha glad you saw the other responses about WLED 😅 As for the coating, since they're sliding into Aluminum extrusions, I didn't want the exposed terminals along the strip to short circuit. This is also why I left the sticky back on the rear as that too is covering more exposed brass terminals. I could have manually cut electrical tape and wrapped it around each point between the 300 LED's. However, in my initial tests months ago, non-waterproof silicon strips didn't sit securely in the V-Slot channel causing uneven diffusion from slight variance in positioning. So silicon strips seemed best... until I got these thicccc boiis 😢

Hey, I was wondering what soldering iron that was that you were using and if you would reccomend it??
@camshand
11 ай бұрын
Yo think you're the first person to ever ask about it! I think it's super cool, it's a Miniware TS80p USB-C soldering iron. I got my wife to buy it for my Birthday a year or probably 2 ago now. Have had no issues, and with the removable tip it packs away nicely. Also takes its temp readings from the tip which was a main consideration, as cheaper irons will take a while to notice a drop in temperature when making first contact with cold metals. I'm no expert in soldering irons but I really enjoy being able to plug it into a 12v powerbank and use it anywhere.
