My hot take: the scariest thing about ROOM is that he's in pain. There at the beginning it looks like he's seizuring, and he does that same jerking movement in 'They Don't Know.' Something's physically coming over him that he can't stop and can barely endure. Meaning, *he's not gonna be in control of whatever terrifying thing you think he's gonna do to you.* The kind of pain that's ready to attack anything that moves, burn anything it touches. It evokes this nauseating cocktail of pity and terror in the viewer. As humane people we're supposed to have sympathy for anything suffering this much, and we almost do, we almost get there, and then ROOM looks us in the eyes and reminds us what he is. Favorite video in the series by far

What he means by fear is the fear of losing people as well as love to the person. Hes a good person he just doesnt know the answer to this barrier. So in turnhe wont loose control its just a fact he cant express himself with people trying to turn away from him so when he tries to avoid this he only scares people off more causing more frustration in him.

My theory for this video is that it's about the loneliness of lacking love/connection with others. The narrator, Room (people seem to be using this name for the triangle head dude), says that he has "seen of it" and "heard of it", meaning that Room can recognize something but hasn't experienced it for himself. The thing that Room is talking about is "drawing near without reprisal", i.e. getting close to someone without them responding in a hostile way. "Bridging the chasm" also refers to the same concept, as forming a relationship with someone removes the distance between people. These lines are actually describing love. Room has tried to find love, seeking out someone who he wants to become close to, but he is immobilized from his own self-doubt and fear. So the only possible way for love to develop is if the other person approaches Room. In doing so, this person must "detach themself from those with everything," which refers to the people who Room thinks of as happy and fulfilled because they have experienced love. If Room's crush (for want of a better word) comes to him, they will see both love and fear in his eyes, emotions which Room considers to be one and the same. This all ties in to the video's title, too. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but I just wanted to share my guess at the possible deeper meaning. I absolutely adore this video, especially how it ends -- it gives me shivers every time.

Why do I get this weird sensation like this practically unrecognizable, humanoid, distorted caricature of a person with a triangle head speaking to me through the voice modulators from Nier Automata is actually a kind of okay person who wouldn't actually do any real harm to me if I met him? Normally in this situation you'd feel unnerved, right? But I feel like he's not dangerous, especially given the range of comments about people's interpretations.
@blankblank7382
2 жыл бұрын
Love this & having played Automata I definitely agree with this analogy. If what others said can be taken literally, this “creature” who is so far gone in their own loneliness could be considered a robot for “lacking emotions” having never grown close to love another person. The thought of love scares them, that fearful adrenaline of growing closer to someone “without reprisal” (hostility). Tldr; they wouldn’t hurt you, they long to be understood but can’t bring themselves to be vulnerable & be abused

It’s because it’s not horror, in fact I don’t think it was never meant to be. This series shows characters unhinged by the constructs of any clichés of story telling, anything we would expect to deliver is contrasted by something pure in that is completely original. In this pure form it is able to represent things that the characters are going through the same things we are going through, stress, anxiety, peur, all of it and they are able to give answers and advice on how to be better. It’s not a horror series, just the most unhinged PSA of all time.

When I first saw this video, I wasn't sure what to think. Now I imagine that this Triangle Head guy is making a monologue, he is reflection on his status. "I have seen it. I have heard it." We aren't told what he has seen nor heard, but it is clearly of importance to him. Maybe he was looking for a location/person/thing for a long time. "To draw near without reprisal." Reprisal is another word for "revenge" or "retaliation". "Bridge the chasm. I have sought you out." Clearly he is looking for this individual, where he was not able to before. "But it is to no avail. I am immobilised." Is he physically unable? Or mentally? We see in the video that he is located within some sort of pit, some kind of grave. At 1:13, we can see the ceiling is covered in hanging dark arms, the same sort we see in "I_met_a_beautiful_angel" hanging from the Quilled guy who argued with the Angel. Either this, or perhaps the multiple arms from the white cloaked figure in "The.Complex" "And when you come near-" This second party Triangle Head is addressing- is now moving towards him, as he is immobilised and unable to. "You will see in my eyes..." Now. The video and his voice say "Fear". In the video, "fear" is "peur"- the French translation of "fear." BUT... the subtitles say "love". Is Triangle Head afraid of this figure he had sought out? Does he love them? Is he afraid of something they will do? What is this lore? What has happened here? Only _Boisvert knows... This is just speculation, don't take it to face value. I simply love these videos, it is fun to think of what the lore is. 1:15, the arms hanging from the ceiling. That reminds me of the Quilled God in I_met_a_beautiful_angel. He has many arms...

I’m starting to believe the triangle-headed man from the quarantine video is not the same as the one we see here. The first - who I’ll call “A” for convenience - debuts in the quarantine video. His body is featureless save for a pair of eyes, and he speaks in whispers, sometimes with long, unnatural gaps between syllables. The second - B, as I’ll refer to them - is the one we see here, as well as in the “They Don’t Know” video. They have a slight amount of extra detail, most notably in their face and hands. Their hands are actually visible, as opposed to A’s entirely pitch black appearance, and they seem to be wearing a mask of some sort, which is eerily similar to that worn by the angel in Prelude. Another distinction between the two is the way they speak. While A speaks in whispers, B speaks in a more low, deadpan voice. Now for my theory. Judging by what’s presented in this video, most notably the shot of A sitting on a throne, I’m of the assumption that A is a sort of symbol of perfection, not necessarily a god, but a picture of what everyone should strive to be. As seen in the Daily Routine video, A appears to have originated as a simple being before casting away everything that chained them down, they were free to live as they saw fit. They were free. B saw this happen and desperately wanted to do the same, to become as free as A was. But no matter what they tried, nothing would work. Just watch the first seven seconds of this video and tell me that’s not somebody unleashing all of their pent up hatred at the gods that forced them to live in this cruel and torturous world, constantly tormented with visions of what’s just out of reach, like a pig hopelessly chasing after a carrot dangling before their eyes, the gods are the ones holding the stick it’s tied to. I need sleep.

i love watching these videos without subtitles because i have such poor hearing, my brain is totally focused on trying to understand what its saying instead of being scared so i can basically do anything with a straight face.

No work of art has kept me in that area of having a vague idea of what's going on and its deeper meanings, but not enough for me to move on just yet as I still want to understand it fully, keeping me invested in it possibly forever. The key to real mystery is not having something to solve, it's making someone want to solve it.

Maybe this isn't the message that is being conveyed, but to me, it sounds like he's describing the type of feeling you get when you anxiously meet someone for the first time. Like the "butterflies in your stomach" feeling. Someone that you'd regard them with high admiration, like a crush or some idle with a very esteemed reputation. As if overwhelmed and unworthy by their presents, you become mesmerized, flustered, starstruck, or most likely in this case, petrified. I mean the title helps hint to the idea.
