For the first story, assuming the husband met the requirements for FMLA the boss would have been in violation of federal protected leave when he denied the paternity leave. Then in double trouble when he retroactively applied his paternity leave that harmed the employee. That’s company could have faced thousands of dollars of fines. Edit: the disability comment is another situation where the boss could have faced ADA violations. She was a customer while she was shopping so she was protected under the ADA.

This first story reminds me of a co-worker I used to have. When he found out his wife was pregnant, he got a second job at Wal-Mart to help pay for everything they would need. When his wife went into labor, his boss there refused to let him call off, threatening to fire him. We live in a no fault state, where employers can fire you for no reason at all, so the boss very well could fire him and there would be nothing he could do about it. About a month later, there was another incident that resulted in my co-worker quitting. He was on his way to work, when he got a call from his wife stating that their daughter had stopped breathing, and she needed him to come back to drive them to the emergency room. He turned around and called his boss to let him know he had an emergency and needed to call off. His boss again threatened to fire him if he didn't make it, and my co-worker told him "You can't fire me, because I quit." He told us all the story during his next shift, and our boss was able to get him back to full time so he could continue to provide for his family. This honestly wasn't even the only time I'd heard about that store being absolute trash like this either. I had a friend who worked for that same Wal-Mart, and she had issues with her feet that required surgery. She'd asked for time off, and they actually did fire her. Their reason? They just didn't want to pay for her medical leave. My dad's neighbor also worked there, and one day she came to my dad's door in tears because her car had broken down, and her husband was at work. She'd tried to call off from work, but Wal-Mart told her the same thing as my co-worker. "Show up, or your fired." My dad of course gave her a ride to work so that she could keep her job, but it's still crazy to me that there are people like this who can't even have sympathy for the fact that sometimes life just happens, and there's nothing you can do about it.

In the second story, the fact that the bakery and other stores give free stuff to entitled assholes disgusts me as they do these things to keep those people quiet and so those Karen folks just find a way to make off with free stuff. Also, the workers that are fired because they confront stupid influencers and Karens represent the problem we have in schools where people are either punished, suspended or expelled because they stand up to their bullies.

Oh man that first one. That boss is on the same level as the boss my man had when I was pregnant. He had the habit of locking up stuff like slips for time off in his desk so NO one could use them. And the medical kit was in his office. If I remember. he would lock his office while he wasn't in there. And when it came to my man. Both my man and me wished we could have been flies on the wall. He actually went down to HR and told them that they needed to make my man go back to work. They told HIM that my man was covered by the Family Leave Act. And that my man had up to 12 weeks if he wanted to use them. We wished we could have seen his face when he heard that.

Listening to story 2 reminded me of another reddit post, the karen went to the bakery section of a supermarket and began grabbing and smelling all the rolls trying to find, in her words, "the freshest bread" even though they were all from the same batch. When asked to stop as the store will have to now throw out all the contaminated buns the karen got offended and demanded to talk to the manager, the manager came listened to karen as she basically outed herself and what she did. The manager excused himself, went behind the bakery and grabbed a stack of large paper bags and began bagging up all the buns, all whilst the karen is screaming entitlement at him. The manager then price stickered all the bags and dumps them in the karens cart, and then told the karen to please pay for her goods and leave the store, security will make sure you pay for all your shopping. The karen was then escorted to a till and off the property with her half trolley of buns. 🤣🤣🤣

Back when I had my first job, I heard a story about one of my co-workers (I'll call her Zoey) that she was on her phone in the middle of the shift, but it was because someone was texting her that someone she knows had an emergency and needed to be taken to the ER. The shift manager at that time saw Zoey with her phone, told her to put it away and go back to work, DESPITE her telling him her friend/family member was taken to the ER, I wouldn't be surprised if she asked to call them or go see them, but NO, the guy said he didn't care. That one particular shift manager was an ass, and I remember working on Halloween, the crew ordered pizza, but I decided to order from Pizza hut next door, bc I didn't like what they ordered. He felt the need to tell my boss who happened to be my dad running the store, and snitch about it. That guy was such an asshole!

This is in every way the opposite. Good thing this guy was fired.

The manager being pissed/petty about time off is pretty common, simple reason is is that when that person is gone the manager themselves sometimes has to step in to cover those shifts which they hate, when we were understaffed my managers fuckin hated coming in to work a normal shift and really tried to push us into picking up overtime and to pretty much deal with less people because quote “it’s not our job to work these positions”.

First story, when the boss kept calling OP's house over and over to try and make her husband come into work, I would have begun looking into whether he could be charged with Harassment, creating a hostile work environment, and other things....because if so, they could probably have just contacted corporate and said: *"Here's the situation. This manager is harassing my husband to try and force him to come into work by retroactively denying his PTO and Paternity leave, and when he fails to do that he keeps coming up with other excuses. He has also tried to claim that I am not disabled and do not need help with our newborn. Unless you deal with him in a manner we deem satisfactory, we will be taking legal action."* The instant corporate heard the words "legal action", they probably would have gone into "Oh, shit!" mode and fired that asshole so fast his head would spin....and possibly even fired the guy's dad for good measure to punish him for the obvious nepotism. The last thing a business like that needs is the hit to their reputation that such charges would bring, so they would more than likely prefer to just give that boss the axe and be done with it than risk having an even bigger problem on their hands.
