I was the rigger for the show. Circle truss was rigged on 3 motors and was designed to be moved during this part of the show (as was a 'V' back truss). The movement was called by the LD for shots for the front cameras. Moving trusses had inertia reels on them. Motors were standard 4m/min.
@akashahuja2346

@John H I can assure you that no chemicals were involved in the rigging of that show or any other that I was chief rigger on. Can't speak for any other crews though. As for living the dream, I don't understand that. I went from rigging a show before to this one and after de-rigging this one went and rigged another one and so on. More than 25 years as a rigger I decided that I had done all that I had wanted to and retired. It's just a job, one that I enjoyed and was well paid, but still it was a job. No dream of any kind unless your dream involves long hours, hard physical work at height, spending far too much of your life waiting around at airports and living on tour buses with a load of mental crew!

@John H you were not wrong, there was an awful lot of substance abuse going on in the industry at the time. Things have changed I'd say but I have been out now for 8 years but the whole rigging industry is a lot more professional than in the early days. In my first 8 years I had never even seen a harness let alone worn one! Have you heard about the new shampoo for riggers? It's called 'go and wash'!
@akashahuja2346

@@hankatstricklandpropane well the industry always has room for people with dedication and enthusiasm and you get to see a lot of interesting things, that's for sure. Hang around the industry hang outs and be available at short notice and your likely to end up on a show sooner or later. Many people progress onto jobs and tours by starting out as local crew. Just remember it's a 'people' industry and it only takes one good recommendation to get you started.

Holy crap fellow heathens, the round lighting truss over center stage was still hanging in place at 29:49, but then a little while later, it appears that the band could have killed and whoever rigged that truss is lucky as hell! That’s what I saw. I’ve got more than a little experience in the matter too. My friends band Children’s Choir once opened their headlining show with a round truss that was tilted into place, but it was CONTROLLED! I was watching and didn’t notice that it partially fell and was swinging above their heads. If that was intentional man that was stupid dangerous. The results speak for themselves. That’s yet another reason to not rig from one piece of rigging. If that had been one piece and snapped it would have run through the truss and crushed those guys! It appears that a point up stage center maybe behind the drummer broke and it only stayed up because of the other two pieces, and of course also why you over rate rigging. If that rig had weighed 2400lbs and each point was rated to 800lbs, that’s not advisable at all, but when the one the one gave way, each point was now holding 1200lbs, yet most likely not fail, but even that rating is for a static load, which that was not. Hey doesn’t Carcass play right after them, on a higher riser? Hmm. This could get dicey.

Circle truss was rigged on 3 x 1 tonne top hung chain hoists backed up with inertia reels. Truss was moved during the show for dramatic effect. The brief from the designer to me was 'scare the crap out of the audience!' Glad to see it worked... This is nothing compared to the moves I did on the headliner
@akashahuja2346
4 жыл бұрын
The upstage end of the circle was lowered at 4 meters per minute. The circle truss came in at just under 500kg as I recall and I had a total of 3000kg lift capacity on that truss and all motors were backed up with the inertia reels. Remember that this was a time when venues didn't require secondary steels on loads over the stage but I always put secondaries on all motors and was considered to be too fussy. All slings were rated 2 tonne roundslings with Crosby 3.25T shackles throughout. Wish I could have enjoyed the show but I was operating the motors from stage right with cans on.
