Silicon Valley, June 6, 2024 - Asia Society Northern California hosts a conference on the topic of envisioning India. In the past year, reports on the ‘rise’ of India, India’s potential to become the next great economic superpower, and India’s technological development have swept the globe. Envision India spotlights leading voices across the fields of business, government, technology, academia, and entrepreneurship as we analyze and envision the critical role of India in our rapidly changing world.
Asha Jadeja Motwani, Silicon Valley-based venture capitalist and philanthropist, moderates this panel. Featured speakers include Mukesh Aghi, President and Chief Executive Officer of the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), and Arzan Tarapore, Research Scholar at the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford University.
Aghi opens the discussion by introducing the four dimensions of the U.S.-India partnership-geopolitical, economic, technological, and people-to-people. Motwani confirmed Aghi’s comments, adding that the U.S. and India are moving away from the “China Plus One” dynamic toward a deepened partnership based on shared values of democracy particular against the backdrop of China’s increasingly aggressive stance. Also complementing Aghi’s remarks, Tarapore discusses Indian startups’ role in strategic defense plus Aghi’s previously mentioned dimensions of U.S.-India Partnership. The panel concluded with all speakers reflecting on foreign direct investment and the Quad’s role in bringing additional partnerships with India.
