잘봤어용 사실 칭찬할 때 어려 보여요, 젊어 보여요 둘 다 사용할 수 있어요! 자기보다 나이 많은 사람한테 말할 때에도 그 사람이 할머니, 할아버지, 어머니, 아버지 세대의 분이 아니라면 어려 보인다고 칭찬하는 게 보통인 것 같아요! 어려 보인다는 말이 꼭 부정적인 말은 아닙니다:)

저도 이 생각 했어요! For english speakers: you can use 어리다 to compliment someone - in fact, it is much more common unless that person is much older (부모님, 할머니 할아버지 generation). This does not have any negative connotations. This is because 어리다 is young and not fully grown whereas 젊다 refers to fully grown but young. You dont want to say 젊다 to teenagers or people in their 20s ☺️

So it looks like "어릴 때" could have the feeling of "as a child", or "during (my) childhood", "in my youth", "at a young age", etc. Thinking of it those ways eliminates the confusing present tense "when I AM young" feel of it. Thanks, Billy! I was curious about this topic before, so thanks for the great explanation as always!! 🙂

I found this video to be confusing because the information in the earlier section seems to imply that they are used in mutually exclusive situations. But this is later revealed not to be the case. Still, it is a useful insight.

우아 한국말 진짜 어려워요. 그런데 예문 중에 어릴 때 키가 작았어요 보다 어렸을 때가 더 자연스럽게 들리기는 하는 거 같아요. 어릴 때는 모두 키가 다 작아서 그런가? ㅎ

not related to the vid but quick observation: if a verb stem ends with a nasal sound (ㄴ,ㅁ or ㅇ) (for example 젊, 감, 안 (its so weird seeing korean verb in their regular stem forms)) then when the dictionary form ending is attached it gets pronounced as 따 so 점따,감따 and 안따 and all endings beginning with a lax or base consonant now start with tense or double consonants so 점씀니다, 감께, 안따, etc.

I think i heard some koreans say '나때' in the sense that they mean "the time when i was young"..is it correct or am i the one who's misinterpreting it??
@TheTurtleWithATopHat

I interpret it as "in my day." Like "In my day we didn't have cell phones and the internet." That said, I have not come across 나때 before, so I'm just guessing.
