I wanted to make my last 14ers memorable so I left Chicago Basin Eolus and North Eolus for finishers from purgatory trail as a day hike. Last time I was in the Chicago Basin I biked in the pugatory trail and hike from needle creek on. That time I was only able to do Sunlight and Windom Peak, but this time I wanted to do the whole thing on foot. I got there the night before at 10 pm and slept in the back of my car until 2:45 am I woke up had some coffee and breakfast and was on the trail at 3:15 am. Hiking in the dark is not my favorite every little noise startles me, plus the trail is overgrown and wet. I focused on the hike ahead which was pretty rough through the purgatory so many loose sharp rocks and uneven terrain that it was pretty hard to run and keep a decent pace. Made it to Needle Creek at 6:00 am still dark, signed in log and took off didn't waste any time. The trail gets steeper once on the Needlecreek trail to the Chicago basin. I recorded more as I got closer to Eolus.
