Puerto Ayacucho is a Venezuelan city, capital of the Amazonas state, being the largest town in the state, it was founded on December 9, 1924, by the engineer-geologist Santiago Aguerreverre. It has a population, according to the 2023 census, of 135,000 inhabitants. It is located on the right bank of the Orinoco River in front of the Colombian town of Casuarito; in the north of the state in the Atures municipality.
