Despite horrendous Marxist control over Academia, I'm glad that Indian youth are finally getting their knowledge and wisdom on Dharma by such wonderful people.. My story, I was a Western style atheist untill I start reading about my own history and Dharma.. Now I know what Hinduism is all about. I'm a Dharmic Capitalist Hindutva'ite That's why Left hates popular podcasts because they are giving space to Hindu voices

Reasoning, debate n diverse way to belief is the pillar of Hindus. The philosophy sorrounding the activities we perform is more vivid in this religion. Leftists have their own agenda. Erase everything from slate of mind of individuals , write their own dictat n make them believe so that resistance to its existence n continuity is not a challenge.

Especially when Amishji answered "We are the only pre bronze culture that is still alive, every other culture is wiped out". I am having goosebumps even when writing this back. Excellent episode. My congratulations to Smitaji and her entire production team for putting it all together. And ofcourse Amishji and Didi for their valuable insights. Pls keep up the good work.

Speak for yourself then. I come from a Punjabi Hindu family and my mother would read Ramayan, Gita, etc during her pregnancy & so did most women in our area. It was considered auspicious and focusing on good samskaras to impart on the child. It's pretty common for us to hold 3 day or even 7 day kirtan & the whole pind would come and listen to chapters of the Ramayan or Gita from start to finish along with music in between. Funnily enough if I can't sleep to this day I listen to Hanuman Chalisa or kirtans on KZitem. Your child learned what you taught it. Had you taught them Ramayana or Gita in the womb they would've been predisposed to it hence what we call samskara.

There is some logic behind belief that Mahabharat may not be kept in the home. This is not the only tradition. One more tradition is there may not be even public recital of Mahabharat like those of Ramayan,Bhagwat and other Puranas. The logic is, Mahabharat is basically a tale of Family Feud, in which members of a family are conspiring against each other. And in the end nothing good comes out. We all know that in almost every family there are always present some frictions. There are chances any member finding clues from the epic. To avoid such chance our forefathers very wisely adopted this tradition of not keeping a copy of this epic in the home. This practice is more prevalent in North India.
@aprilblossoms4
10 ай бұрын
It’s absolute nonsense. Like people don’t fight or there are no dysfunctional families just because they don’t keep Sri Mahabharata or read it. People will fight and feuds no matter what. By avoiding reading it, we are missing out on one of the greatest epic and the multitude of stories that originate. Not to mention how characters gets twisted like Karna being shown as some benevolent character while it’s far from the truth. Unfortunately there are lots of people even in the south who believe that somehow their families will fall apart just because they read Sri Mahabharata.
@pankaj29904
10 ай бұрын
@@aprilblossoms4 Actually the tradition dates back to days when these epics were the only guides to follow for the people. Kathaakaars themselves used to tell people not to keep this particular book in the home. I myself have in my home seven volumes of Mahabharat with extensive commentaries of the editor.

I am making recommendations of 2 classics : 1) Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master 2) Autobiography of a Yogi Both are worth their weight in gold and should be read multiple times so that those magical incidents can be digested. Please do read.

Many Hindus are not aware of Pran Pratishtha.This important spritual ceremony needs to be told to non hindus who treat idol worshippers with contempt.
@gbhatia9809
5 ай бұрын
There is a distinction between "worshiping through Idols" and "idol worship". Worshiping through Idols is sanctioned in Sanatan Dharma, whereas Idol Worship is not. Idols are consecrated & installed by recital of hymns & specific prayers (Pran-Pratistha) so that they bestow specific blessings, powers & inspiration of God on the devotees. Idols per se have no such value - so you find firecrackers with pictures of goddess Laxmi being burst during Diwali, Ganesh idols washed ashore after immersion or torn pictures in the dustbin. There are many Gods & Goddesses in the Hindu religion because requirement of blessings, power & inspiration are different in different individuals & also vary at different life time of the same individual. A student recites prayers invoking blessings of Saraswati to enhance learning power, a soldier prays before Durga, a ruler before Lord Rama, a craftsman before Lord Vishwakarma & a singer before Saraswati or Mother Sharda - all to acquire excellence for the purpose of their being, their existence in the world - which is their true Dharma. Such prayers have potential to bestow excellence to all segments of the society unlike other religions where one-size fits all. Traditionally, the eyes of the deity were not fully carved until all rituals were performed. In the modern times, the face of the deity is covered till its installation at designated place with specific hymns & rituals or prayers. Before rituals & prayers, the idol is merely an idol. Afterwards, the God or Goddess is seen as residing within that idol..

Caste discrimination is rooted not in religion but culture. Caste was an ancient system of occupational class delineated in Hindu texts that over the years developed into a rigid social hierarchy. The lowest castes, or untouchables, were marginalized and faced persecution. Caste-based discrimination is not intrinsic to Hinduism and should not be thought of as religiously sanctioned. the poorer workers involved in 'unclean' occupations such as sweeping or leather work were historically segregated and banished outside the city limits. Over time, personal cleanliness came to be identified with "purity", and the concept of untouchability eventually spread to the rural areas. Manusmriti text was never implemented as a law code in ancient India. The caste system as it exists today is the result of developments during the rise of the British colonial government in India. The British Raj furthered this development, making rigid caste organisation a central mechanism of administration. By 1860 the British formulated the caste system into their system of governance, granting administrative jobs and senior appointments only to Christians and people belonging to certain castes.

True!! Perfect understanding. A simple comparison with the European social classes and still how the monarchy works there should clear the picture of who actually came up with the "Casta or chaste" system, which means race. - Upper class - clergy, nobles, royals and knights. - Middle class - merchants, doctors - Lower class - peasants (which is still a slur used today) , serfs or slaves of royals. There was no mobility between these classes, and was already determined by birth, ( ALL this is historically accurate) - the dynamics started to change with the increase in black slave trade. - And a new concept of racial superiority took over, which led to persecution and genocides for 100s of years.

Superb Amish and Bhavna ji- on the comparison between western and indian systems. Good explanation on the lineage of change of notions of divinity. It always infuriates me to see western indologists and their obsession with genealogy of the gods in terms of linear time, when these are obviously deities who transcend linear time and even physical limitation of the visible earth sphere. I have tried ‘ writing back’ but I am exhausted by the pervasiveness of the bad faith with which they control our narrative. Happy to listen to this discussion. Like a breath of hope and fresh air.

I would highly suggest if anyone is interested in Dharma then they should read ancient Puranas, Upnishads, vedas rather than these new authors because they are often mixed with their own views. It takes away the originality. You can read books written by Yogis like Sadhguru, Om Swami but not common scholars. Common scholars find it hard to truly fathom the essence of Dharma but for Yogi it's much more easier & the essence of Dharma is Yoga itself.

Exactly no one reads the available easy translations of original content from Gita press. They have all purana, Upanishads with originality.

This discussion is one of the most relevant and eyes opener for our hindu Brothers who have been cut off from our ancient wisdom /cultures by the ruthless.invaders who not only plundered but systematically destroyed our culture. Thanks for all of you participants and the anchor madam 🙏it is also pertinent to request the government to allow the study of hindu scriptures in the educational.institutions .krishnam vande jagadgurum.👏

Smita Prakash is Kannadiga 🫣 I got to know today. I thought she is from Delhi 😎 ( basically North Indian as she is not having mother tongue influence of Kannada / Tulu )

One of the best podcasts I ever attended. I started listening on Google Podcast and just after initial 10 minutes, I realized that I was making a mistake and this should be watched and observed. I request for a single Podcast with Ms. Bhavna Roy. Thanks for a wonderful experience. ❤

Karnataka & Kerala have family temples, naga worship, bhoota worship, Velicchapadu tradition all have science in these. We take our kids to family temple & emphasize it’s importance & how lucky they have to have this in their lives. They get it!

Somehow they sound elitist. But they sound and write a lot lot LOT better than Devdutt Pattanaik. Not to be picky, but lot of factual errors from Amish though. सत्यं ब्रूयात् प्रियं ब्रूयात् न ब्रूयात् सत्यमप्रियम् । प्रियं च नानृतं ब्रूयात् एष धर्म सनातनः ॥ Is from the Manu Smruti, not Natyashastra. I don’t know whether Amish deliberately avoided mentioning Manusmriti given the much reviled document that it is. But why be apologetic? Good effort. And I wish the book good success. But being a Sanskritist, I would much rather rely on the Sanskrit moola.

It might be a little weird but i think bramhins are waking up and protecting dharma ( dharma and Varna of bramhin both) and that will inevitably wake up the whole community.

Thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. Amish and Bhawana are very lucky to have a loving caring family. May Lord Shiva continue to bless them

Good you guys delving into Hindu dharma subject I guess era is shifting but be bold and never shy away the onslaught. You all should bring Swami Sarvapriyananda from Ramakrishna mission how Swami Vivekananda had to face with idol worship. Love and respect from North America.
