I'm glad they are using this piece for auditions this year because I personally feel it is a very easy piece. I love your breakdown of this, learned a little bit, and am going to be passing it on to some of the people I know who are struggling. Thank you so much for this video. :D

Dude thanks for this breakdown, can't wait to start learning it for Region auditions this year.

Also, I got the "enhanced" voicing. But once again, almost no one outside of marimbaone has done a side by side comparison. So it's hard to tell if it's worth it. The descriptions for the voicing is rather vague, so I got the middle one as far as expense goes.

I love the breakdown of this piece! I remember the first four mallet piece I learned was the xylo part for the Great Locomotive Chase. Then, I ignorantly decided to play Velocities as my next piece (though I've got it down after a year or so). It was quite a jump in difficulty!

I played Great Locomotive Chase two years ago (Sophomore year of High school) on Marimba. It was the first time I had to do four mallets for a concert. I had started doing four mallets 3 months prior to that concert. Fun piece. I'm currently working on Brian Blume's "... Like a Burden Too Heavy"

Back in middle school, that was one of our pieces and I had the xylo part, despite me never actually playing four mallets in any music before that. Needless to say, I was freaking out. In the end, we dropped the piece, so I didn't have to worry about it. It sounded like a pretty fun piece, though I'm glad we never ended up doing it

Good stuff. The audition process is a long and a strenuous one. I'm sure help is appreciated. Also, younger musicians will make great use of this. I remember eons ago when I played this song in my younger days... Good times :). And totally want a Katy Perry poster!!!!

Perhaps one day :) In the last 5 years I've moved 5 times! Taken me awhile to find the right job that I'd be happy in. Makes it hard to learn harder stuff when you're constantly on the move. :)

Have you ever thought about performing an advanced mallet solo for youtube. Maybe Rumble strips by Gordon Stout or Libertango. I would really like to see you play something advanced!

With a different interpretation it could defiantly be pulled off. It should not be overlooked that in an audition situation some judges may prefer a faster version because they've heard it 354632454 times already.

Unfortunately, there isn't really a good place to play all the different combinations short of going to their factory :) Basso Bravo is only on the bottom 1/2 of an octave. It takes away a little bit of the "bite" of the first overtone. I've only played it on the PAS showroom floor, so I can't say I have a really good feel for if it's worth it or not. My gut from messing with it is that in small rooms it will make the bass sound more deep and less harsh, but on stage it will be less noticeable.

In my opinion you playing the fast vesion of this song really sounded cool, and with a little more dynamic level it would sound better so maybe it's how someone inturpretes the song which makes it sound musical

Do you use "basso bravo" resonators in the lower register? I'm about to buy a Marimba One myself and I wonder what they sound like and if its worth the price difference.. I was also wondering what you think about choosing the traditional or the enhanced keyboard type..? Did you already try both, and if so, what would you recommend (also ? Thx very much if you take the time to answer, and if not, a big compliment for the vids anyway! :)

for your decoration: why don't you use a green screen an add funny stuff :D? no, just kidding: i think it's just fine as it is: you can focus better on what is shown (i hope that doesn't sound to lame ^.^) BTW: awsome work shame on me for not knowing this wonderful piece, but i'll start practicing (;
