After visiting South Florida in early July to look at a 1978 Piper Tomahawk PA-38, I decided to take the plunge and buy her. After a successful pre-buy, title search and transaction, I returned to Florida, met up with the previous owner -- who happened to be a CFII -- and we flew the plane back from KHWO (Hollywood, Florida) to KJVW (Raymond, Mississippi).
Given the summer weather in the Southern US, we filed IFR the entire way, and needed to -- we had plenty of opportunity for me to experience actual IFR on this 9+ hour instrument lesson. I was very proud of the Tommy's ability to go nearly 800 nautical miles through the elements and get me home in reasonable comfort and, thanks to an easterly tailwind, in pretty good time.
