In today's video we repair The Bluesmobile from the movie The Blues Brothers. The Blues Brothers is a musical comedy from 1980 starring Dan Akroyd and John Belushi as Jake and Elwood Blues. After Jake's release from prison his brother Elwood tells him that they are on a "Mission from God" and have to get the band back together to raise the money to save the orphanage where they were raised from foreclosure. The movie is very funny and entertaining, as well as having a lot of great music and cameos from famous musicians. The Bluesmobile is a decommissioned 1974 Dodge Monaco Police car and is involved in one of the longest most action packed and destructive car chases I have ever seen. It is a great movie that I remember fondly and recently introduced to my son.
The Bluesmobile snow globe features Jake and Elwood Blues dancing on top of the car's roof next to a much smaller version of the megaphone that was on top of the car in the movie.
The figurine is lifted off of the stopper. We use the boiling water method to remove the globe. Jake and Elwood came off of the figurine platform duriing disassembly since they were glue down by just the ball of one foot. We had to glue them back down and be very careful reinstalling the figurine. We used our 30% glue snow globe water mix and replaced the green and blue glitter with something similar. We then used the water submersion method to remove the air bubble.
The finished snow globe looks great and will be a great addition to the collection.
At the beginning of the video we explain that we were off the air for about a month due to circumstances beyond our control. During the time we were off Goodwill released their Winter/Spring newsletter for 2003 which featured a three page article on Snow Globe Rescue. The Goodwill Public Relations department solicited their employees for ideas for the newsletter and one employee told them about Snow Globe Rescue. Thank you Darrell! They came out in January, interviewed us and took a bunch of pictures. They were interested in our story because they wanted to showcase someone who was taking old donated items from Goodwill and making them new again. We show the printed version of the newsletter in the video which is available at Goodwill locations, however you can see the online version at the Goodwill website using the link below.
Thank you John, and thanks to all of our subscribers and viewers!
