In Episode 26 we head over to Mandurah in Western Australia to see Family. While we are there, by good fortune we find out the Mandurah Crab Fest is on. We hire a room in the Sebel straight across from the Crab Fest and I connect up with a local Seadoo Fishopro owner Paul Harrison.
Mandurah is a massive area and there's plenty of shallow waters perfect for finding sand crabs. Paul shows me how to catch them around Heron Point using the unique metal crab scoops that I've not seen in QLD.
Crab scooping is a lot of fun and some of them are pretty quick. If I lived in Mandurah - I'd be out doing it every week!!!
I also learned that you need clear skies as once the clouds come, the visibility drops significantly and it's hard to spot the blue swimmer crabs from the ski.
After scooping crabs Paul drops me back to Mandurah and we hang out with Family trying all the great cuisine. Crab Fest is a great day and goes into the night with bands and a carnival feel about it. The year before had been cancelled because of Covid so you can see everyone happy that life is back to normal.
In Bell's Kitchen Local Chef superstar Lu makes a beautiful and tasty Prawn Baguette.
I hope you enjoy the episode.
