Just after Japan's attack against America in Pearl Harbour, the former didn't take long to shift its attention to the Philippines. Nine hours after the attack, the Japanese launched an invasion of the Philippines. As if Pearl Harbor hadn’t been a severe enough blow to the United States, its attempt at defending the Philippines cost more than 23,000 American killed or captured, and an additional 100,000 Filipino casualties. And the Philippines wasn’t all Japan intended to conquer once the United States out of the way.
In this video, I discuss Japan's initial conquests in the South Pacific region in the second world war.
