Have a similar model the Bosch "Jumbo" 2 speed hammer drill. In addition to the 2 gears there is a variable speed via the trigger with a setting wheel in its leading edge. Purchased at McEwan’s Chadstone which is long gone.

0:37 The year of manufacture is often stamped on the tagplate underneath. From the looks of it it is from 1990-92-ish

I would imagine after a week of using it, the brushes bedded in to the commutators, less sparks :-). My mate has a bosch angle grinder, it lasted 10 years, then it stopped. How dare it lol. The brushes were ok, i found one of the field winding copper wires had snapped off the post. Re solder and epoxy fixed it, can't let a good tool die :-D There used to be a product called a "Com Stick", handy to smooth rough commutators.

Your lucky it was only the brushes. My Dad’s Sears drill with an all aluminum case is shot. Both the brushes are shot and also the armature, and the armature is not available. Maybe I’ll see if the guts of my plastic case Black & Decker drill will fit in the Sears aluminum case from the 1960’s.

Could you please do a video showing how to restore the chuck on that same drill? I have the same drill. Thanks

I've just picked one of these up along with a piller drill stand for it. Do you know what the letters on the yellow trigger wheel refer to? And the switch on top of the drill - normally that triggers a hammer action, but it doesn't seem to change anything! Any ideas welcomed! Thanks again for the video - saved for if something goes wrong!

The yellow wheel is the fine speed control. The hammer is just the toggle on the top. I've never had problems with either so can add much more advice.

I have a CSB 650-2RE and on mine you can't switch the hammer on or off unless you first rotate the gear knob so it's in between 1 and 2. Don't know if it's supposed to be like that or if something goes wrong in them over time. There's also a little chart on the top of the housing which displays all the recommended settings for different materials and sizes of drill bit - for example E on the trigger and gear 2 for drilling in wood up to 20mm.

@@arpie2081 IMO it's a clutch mismatch/gear setting: my psb12 vsb2 has a similar probem with a similar workaround. Prolly not intended, but it does prevent accidental shift from hammer action to screw/drill action due to vibration in use; a quick way to avoid it is rotate the chuck manually by ~1/2 turn while pushing the slider until it clicks, implying that the geartrain cogs should now be fully engaged (imagine an old car's gearbox/differential setup)

Nice job. I have a BOSCH CSB 500 2E which just stopped working (dead) the other day after drilling some holes in concrete. The brushes looks fine, so I don't know if it's the trigger, nothing burned. Do you have a link to the parts you got, maybe they have a new trigger. Like you, I brought mine with me in the mid 80's from Denmark. Don't want to buy another one, not enough life left in me for that. Haha.

Thanks for commenting Michael. Despite their age Bosch have good exploded diagrams and part numbers on their website. If you are in Europe parts should be easy to obtain. I'll try update the video description at the weekend with some links.
