From the blue eyed soul of "These Eyes", to the jazz inflected "Undun", to the folk pop hard rock fusion of "No Time",to the riff heavy "American Woman"to the acoustic /heavy Led Zep informed "No Sugar Tonight" the Guess Who had to be one of the most versatile groups of their time. And along with riff meister Randy Bachmann, Burton Cummings with his amazing ability to shift from gritty rock n roll to soulful ballads without skipping a beat - not to mention his R&B /Jerry Lee Lewis style piano playing were key to this criminally underrated band.

Have their ‘76 album “Native Sons” at my “happy place” in the mountains w/o Wi-Fi, one of the songs on it has the sound of a “crackling fire” it reminds me of the wood burning heat stove there, it’s an “ambience” song as the band is dressed up in old west style cowboy outfits on the sleeves/cover. Giddy UP!! 🎶🐴❤️ When Leo Kottke plays the guitar, he always amazes as he and his instrument seem to become fused together as “one”, a genius, wearing that slide on his pinky finger. Wow! Are you the Wolfman ? Naw Pushes the play button of a tape recording and says The Wolfman is everywhere. I remember Curt walking out of the studio and hearing The Wolfman talking to his listeners through the building’s intercom and Curt looks back at the Wolfman through the window and looks in amazement. I agree it’s one of my favs. It’s such an iconic movie. George Lucas was on his game along with all the actors and actresses involved with American Graffiti.

@@curtisphilumalee1447 I need to watch it again as I cant remember most of it, it’s been much too long ago. Can’t believe I don’t have the dvd, loved all of the cool cars and the racing scene with an “unknown” actor, cowboy hat wearing Harrison Ford…giddy up! That ‘1932 bright yellow Ford Standard Coupe sure stood out, just read that it’s known as Milner’s Coupe. Reminds me of the red one in ZZ Top bands videos. Vroooom 💨 Vroooom💨💨💨

Great footage that brings back wonderful memories of those pre-MTV, pre-streaming live music days where the artists actually were also fine musicians, too. How lucky we were to come of age during that time! It's like going back in a time machine!

I am a member. I get to see a new one every Monday. Well worth the $ 4.99 per month!

@ Danny Haralson. Does that 4.99 membership fee only include a random episode every Monday? I believe exclusive episodes have included Clive Davis and Marvin Gaye episodes etc. I would love to choose which episodes from latter years to view. If we had the choice, I would gladly pay the subscription. I just want more details. Hope you can give me the inspiration to start up

@@groovedohg The Midnight Special staff chooses what to post. I thought I would like to have a say so too. then I thought I like to be surprised on Monday of the Ep. They had Marvin Gaye up, but they took it down, don't know why. There is an Ep. Clive Davis is host. verry good show. I don't think you'll be disappoint. I'm not. Let me know if this helps. or if you have any other questions I can answer.

@DannyHaralson-ol1io I just saw the recent episode had Montrose and Alvin Lee from 1975. I really need to see that and it is the carrot to join and watch the episode. If I did, can I watch the previous member only stuff, and also, can you cancel at anytime and start up again? Thanks in advance

Saw Jim Messina two years ago in a real small intimate venue. It was one of the most enjoyable shows I’ve been to in quite some time. He and his band sounded great and his sharing of stories made for a great evening. My only wish was that his pal Kenny Loggins was there with him.

That thumbnail is giving me a strong Captain Caveman/Jeff Spicoli vibe. I'm half expecting Messina to have a pizza delivered during the performance.

In Saigon I used to listen to Wolf Man Jack on the radio. I have cassette tapes to this day of his nightly show that I recorded on my porto- studio. Then he came to the Saigon USO and I was fortunate to be able to see him. For a short minute.LOL! Excellent music, singers and bands on the Midnight Special from back in the day.A blast from the past!

"Undun" is one of the best well-crafted Pop tunes (props to Randy Bachman/composer). Billy Preston? What can say...he pretty much stole the show on THE CONCERT FOR BANGLA DESH. I recall Martin Mull in this time frame being a pretty decent guitarist with Jazz chops. Funny guy, too!

My neighbor knew him as Uncle Burton growing up. Said that his grandma had a summer cottage just down the road from him and he often came over for drinks and to strum his guitar. Somewhere in Ontario. He says that she knew he had a band but she didn't really like them. 😅 Anyways, he went to a Burton Cummings concert years later and couldn't believe that it was "Uncle" Burton on the stage. "Hey! That's Uncle Burton!" 30 years later he still had that excitement in his voice when he relayed his story to me. Anyways, just thought I'd share this little story of my neighbor's grandma and her drinking buddy. Cheers.

I was in the Us Air Force, stationed at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, we all got our chores done just so we could watch this in the dayroom in the barracks! Great memories, great musicians, Burton Cummings' voice is incredible still o this day! Less than a year later got to see Billy Preston, Grand Funk Railroad and Leon Russell at the Airman's Club at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX, solidified for me what I was going to do when Uncle Sam was done with me.....and got to meet and work with so many of my musical heroes over the years in Nashville.
