I learned to drive in an XE Falcon 'X-Pac' that we bought from a family friend. It had been sitting in a backyard surrounded by weeds for years. We picked it up for $800 back in 1996. I used to drive it to Muswellbrook high school, my mates and I used to cruise up to Scone cinema on Friday nights or weekends. We had it for years until it got sold to someone who lived either in Muswellbrook, it may have even been Aberdeen. Apparantly he used to take in on big long trips to South Australia. Great cars but couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. Climbing hills it valve bounced so much you swear you were going to see dimples in the bonnet!

Hey Mick Xe of that vintage with oil usage will almost certainly be valve guide oil seals If you turn her off and restart after say refuelling and she blows a cloud of smoke … this is definitely valve guides I’ve changed heaps of em Put each cylinder on top dead centre compression stroke Put air pressure on cylinder You can make a tool out of an old spark plug with the guts knocked out and an air fitting brazed to the top where porcelain used to be You know the drill Take collets and spring off one at a time and replace seals Makes a huge difference The other problem with older 250 / 6’s is the timing chains get incredibly stretched Watch the timing for float !!! Was making 300kw/ 410hp out of the old crossflow at the wheels with the standard intake so be good to see what it makes with the new one. Hi Mick, awesome content and I love it that I found an Aussie restoring old classics like the cars my dad owned. I usually watch a channel called legit street cars and it is out of America. Great show as well. I plan to watch your resto on the XE wagon that looks cool. If I was to own a classic I would love a resto mod EH Holden. Cheers 🍻

@@backshed5295, always been a ford guy, but in all honesty don’t know much about cars, missed the opportunity to learn heaps from my late dad, but when you are young don’t always make the right decisions. I just love your approach to repairing things, in our modern world too much is simply thrown away. I don’t mind what cars you bring back to life, I appreciate the effort and process. Keep the revivals coming👍
