What to do in Osaka? Universal Studios Japan, USJ
I LOVED USJ! It was so much fun and did not feel overwhelming for a 1 day visit. Everyone recommended going early and especially as we did not buy our tickets in advance.
We visited on a Wednesday in January which is one of their quietest periods. The queues were not bad at all from getting the tickets to waiting for rides. Knowing it was a quiet period we did not buy fast passes (which cost the same as a ticket!!) because you have the option of buying them once you're in the park so you can always check out the situation first... but the fast passes are limited.
I think it would have been a very different experience on a busy day and I would not have enjoyed it so much. Even when arriving at 8:15am there were hoards of people at the station and then as soon as the train doors open the race is on! But once we got inside it was pretty tame and the queues for the rides drop to next to none around an hour before closing so apart from racing to the minion ride as soon as we got in we just wandered around during the day and only went on rides with short queues. By the end of the day we had been on everything.
