Idea: build an electrolyser setup, but use an HVAC and Hydrogen gas to freeze the Oxygen. That way, you'll be able to build O2-tempshift plates to get tonns of Oxygen to where you need it when you need it.

This food issue is why I was saying use critter feeders instead of grazing for Flox and Bammoth, and to wall the Bammoth off from your crops. I gave the exact math in other comments, but for domesticated plants it is around 25kg of Squash or 12 kg of Pikeapples needed to feed a full ranch until the next harvest comes in. Wall the Flox and bammoth off from the plants in their ranches [the same way you would wall off hatches to keep them close to grooming] and have at least 1 extra squash farm per bammoth ranch or pikeapple farm per flox ranch. Building the farm tile on top of a snow tile [instead of as the floor] helps with body temperature for the crops.

so i played through the whole ass DLC and when you connected the pipe directly to the tree, i was like 'huh? what kind of magic is this, did i really wasted 300 cycles emptying the trees with the dupes carrying the bottles manually to a collection point, and overflow the base with nectar sdeveral times, because the unloader pump has no automation wire, then designed a setup that uses the auto sweepers to automatically carry the nectar bottles to the bottle emptiers, just because i didn't see the pipe output?' wow, just wow

huh, nectar can compete with water in heat capacity, but has a much better temperature range. I think it's the first time there's a liquid better than water(polluted anyway), apart for super coolant. I know there's the nuclear waste but for availability and usage, it'll be up there with super coolant in the effort to obtain, plus it requires the Spaced Out DLC enabled.

Oh god the random tile orders on the map. I had that with dig orders last night covering most of the top half of the map. Actually, both maps, it was on the second asteroid as well! I found with the ethanol being used as coolant for metal refineries that it was okay until I tried to make any steel, same problem you had. Steel just produces so much heat that I couldn't get the ethanol cold enough to start with to prevent it from flashing into gas. You could run a separate refinery exclusively for steel but on my current map I'm having real trouble getting enough lime for more than the very scattered occasional piece of steel. (I had to temporarily give up on my last map which is the standard sized asteroid because it's running very slow on my laptop but I've gone from one problem to another - that old map has no renewable water except for a single 95 degree geyser and a salt slush geyser *inside the magma*, my current one with the smaller astroids has almost no ethanol or lime. I managed to get a pokeshell that I'm starting to breed up and I'm just now getting the bonbon trees set up so I can ranch spigot seals so hopefully that will help.) One other unexpected problem I've found with this DLC is that when liquids fall down the ladder, occasionally they seem to freeze mid-air! A few times now I've had dupes complaining about not being able to reach food or toilets and when I eventually tracked down the problem it was a single tile of ice or polluted ice halfway up the central ladder. The only way I can think of it possibly getting there is freezing while falling because it's not resting on any tiles or anything. Wild stuff. Next game I play after this I want to do a challenge run where I'm only allowed to take frost proof dupes.

I think what's your biggest problem is that you're focused on maintaining the temp of the whole asteroid to be sub -20C when only your plants and critters need to be at that temp. Why not just lock them all up and just pump up the whole asteroid with uncooled oxygen from electrolyzers.

I see you prefer doing cooling/heating loops by evaluating temperature of one segment of a pipe/rail, and then blocking the whole pipe until temperature of this sole segment reaches target value. But isnt it better to add bypass to this loop, to allow it to circulate, and then pull out only too hot/cold packets? So this pipe/rail would not block, and any imbalances of heat generation inside the way of the loop would be smoothed out?
@Magnet_MD

This is so chaotic, feels like you're constantly in "crisis mode". I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if next episode everything explodes (not literally) as the middle of your base heats up from some like.. hot CO2 you didn't notice you were giving to the Alveo Veras, and then the ranching crops stifle.
@Magnet_MD
Ай бұрын
Same! It's wild how fast things can change with this many Duplicants running around, good or bad.
@littlebear274
Ай бұрын
Funnily enough I'd never actually looked at the specs of a carbon dioxide vent before, I always intended to use them to fuel rockets but never actually did, then this game I got one right below where I was farming alveo vera and was surprised to see it outputs at -55, absolutely perfect for this DLC. So now I have a mechanical airlock set up with automation to a signal switch so that if the CO2 concentration drops in my AV farm I can just open the door for a couple of seconds to let more through. I'd like to get more farms set up as well but I'd ideally want to build a pump in there for that. With 55kg CO2/tile that's not happening until I get an atmo suit dock next to it and I'm seriously short on reed fibre. (Barely any ethanol on the map = can't farm plume squash = can't ranch bammoths. I'm only just now in a position where I can start ranching spigot seals or get cooling for an ethanol distiller.)

Can mercury use as aquatuner cooling liquid for ranches
@cedriccouderc9647
Ай бұрын
The poor SHC of mercury make it not power efficient at all. Even in a closed loop to transfer "coldness" from a cold tank, it doesn't transport much thermal energy. In pipe, the mercury TC is not relevant, as radiant pipes exist. He can still uses the mercury pool to cool something before burning it in the lamps.

I'm only 16 minutes in, but I was wondering, why don't you use the molten mercury to cool your glass.
@Magnet_MD
Ай бұрын
You could, the problem with the mercury is it has a super low heat capacity, so it won't provide a lot of total cooling, and I'm not sure how easily the glass would overpower it and heat it up too much
