If you are looking for an epic challenge in Sölden, make sure you plan a ride on the Fernar Trail. Just the numbers are intimidating. The trail starts on 2.800 meters above sealevel and you will have to cover 1.400 meters of demanding and technical vertical drop.
It's steep and it's exposed and therefore not only a physical, but also a mental challenge.
So it's no wonder I had to push my bike every now and then in order to mitigate the risk. Most of the trail is a no-fall zone, not only because it's so exposed but also because it's really remote and you won't have cell-coverage in most of the upper part.
Apart from that, moderate speed and risk will also let you inhale the sheer beauty of the sorrounding much more. And the scenery is definitely breathtaking.
You can either reach the start of the trail via shuttle from Sölden (all infors under bikerepublic.soelden.com/de/h.... If you take the shuttle you will also be accompanied by a member of the local Mountain Rescue.
Alternatively you can also go there by lift an bike. I took the Langeggbahn, and after the first part of the Ollweite Line headed over to the Rettenbachferner via the Gletscherstrasse. From there you ride through the tunnel (make sure you have lights) over to the Tiefenbachferner.
The Fernar Trail is "shared" so you may run into hikers, though on my ride I only met one. The trail is only open at certain times of the day. Check bikerepublic.soelden.com/de/h... for info.
