Well, you can't get more dramatic than adding war artillery to the music score.

What kind of composer repeats the same note 13 times in row? -Answer: a freaking awesome one (Tchaikovsky, 1812)! What kind of composer holds one chord for over a minute? -Answer: a freaking awesome one (Mahler, 3rd Symphony) What kind of composer ends the piece with using I-V chords for 20 times? -Answer: a freaking awesome one (every ending Beethoven ever wrote)

Tchaik's 13 note repetition comes from the orthodox Russian chant he's quoting.

The endings of the first and fourth movements of Brahms' 4th symphony in e minor are such outpourings of passion as I have almost never seen paralleled. Cant decide which is more epic, but kinda wish one had been included in here, although I really loved the video and enjoyed your insight!

(7:05) Howard Shor, the composer of movie music "The Lord of the Rings" told in an interview to German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung: When he noted Tolkien and Richard Wagner used same nordic sources to write their Ring he decided immediately to create leitmotifs for the movie music and to do Wagners manner using them. His, Howard Shor's, tone speech is strong influenced by Bruckner, a reason why he liked to use french horns and other brass chorals. - Heinz

I should have guessed you are a timpanist, Mr. Harvey! Love your choices and agree with them all as being some of the best. When you make another compilation, think Dvorak's 8th and Cello Concerto, and of course, Mahler's 1st too. I'm a big fan of the tympany too, and I think Shostokovich's 5th is the ultimate. Thanks. I've really enjoyed these two videos on a Tuesday evening. Nothing revives my spirit more than this music. God is good to have given us the geniuses who composed this stuff and the talented musicians to play it. Praises be!

The final minutes of the 11th Symphony by the late English composer George Lloyd (He talks of "the light at the end of the tunnel we all hope to see" ) never fails to send a shiver down my spine. It is surely worth your time! By the way, I had not heard your NPO version of the 1812 before - thanks. The showpiece Decca LSO/Alwyn (originally on its Phase 4 LP Stereo label way back) still holds 1st place in my own opinion and has had a long-overdue issue on CD.

Sibelius 2 is my favorite symphony and the end is so majestic after taking a spin on the dark “wheel of fate”. Not a dramatic ending but I love the end of Ein Heldenleben. The horns laying our hero’s body in ground while the violins lift his soul to heaven. Goosebumps every time.

Star Wars film music I think was greatly inspired by the Planets By Gustov Holst... you hear the Mars main theme in the desert scene... you also have that jugging along of the ending into the intro of the theme of the Empire.

No, Mars is used for the opening scene, when Leia tries to escape the Empire. The desert scene uses the beginning of the second tableau of the Rite of the Spring.

The ending to Sibelius 2 is remarkable no matter how many times I listen to it. But it takes listening to the whole symphony from the very opening notes in the first movement to the end to fully appreciate. Sibelius takes you through very different music, from intense longing to triumphant brass chorale, yet unbelievably with such reverence to form and logic tieing it all together. It isn't until the very end where Sibelius' final statement is shown in full, but has the extra emotional punch when you've been through the entire symphony. It is like seeing something you've worked so hard on finally achieve, knowing all the highs and lows that it took to get there.
