“Gly”: Your channel is growing really well, congratulations! Please be sure your taking all the necessary precautions to explore these types of mines as coal mines are the most dangerous of all to explore due to the likely chance of bad air. Please be safe out there guys, have fun but always prepare for the worst. The KZitem channel exploring community doesn’t want any tragedies. Take care.

The walls that your referring too are called “rib”, watch for little fuzz balls on the bottom (mine flowers) do not touch them that is poop bc it grows fuzz after so long underground, I was a coal miner for almost 15 years LOL also make sure you have a 4 gas detector because if you get into black damp (low oxygen) it’ll be too late and you’ll go down, do gas checks 12 inches from the top
@blake1638

They've always brought a 4 gas detector on all their coal mine trips and this trip we also started bringing 10 minute emergency air tanks. I've guided them to most of the coal mines on their channel, they have a good safety record.

So the real long cut outs are called entries and the “splits” are cross cuts to connect the entries and the entries are used for different things like intake air, tracks, and return air. They leave the blocks of coal in between to help support the roof also. I would definitely take a gas reader with you when you go into coal mines though because methane seeps out of the coal from the pressure of the earth pushing down on it and with no airflow all it takes is a spark
@Infamous21304

@@angliscsaxon1288 that's crazy, they stopped most if not all underground mining in Pennsylvania where I live. Ever since the Knox mine disaster in the 1959, where the river broke through the ceiling, they put a end to mining. A shame really. Our area has the richest Anthracite around.
