Boskop Dam is a very over whelming dam because of all grass, Marnus Erasmus is my guide and he shows me how to break down this extremely grassy dam to catch more bass.
Boskop dam as all you bass anglers know it is full of grass. This can be extremely over whelming because it is difficult to break down what grass to fish to get more bass. Since I haven't bass fished this dam in over 2 years I thought it would be time to try and catch bass here.
Marnus Erasmus is my guest and guide for the day. He has bass fished this dam alot and showed me around the dam and teach me how to catch bass at boskop dam.
Firstly Marnus and myself had the obstacle of heavy winds that made the fishing really tough and this made the bass not bite as well. We started using moving lures like frogs up shallow, chatterbaits and underspins in those channels where the bass would be cruising up to shallow water and deeper water. This was difficult to do due to the heavy winds blowing us of the open channels. The water is clear at Boskop dam so natural lures are key in catching bass. Fluorocarbon line was a key element in catching more bass. The Slobberknocker is a great lure to be running over grass and in-between. The underspin is a great technique to catch bass in grassy areas , it's weedless presentation makes that lure come through grass with ease. Marnus and myself caught did catch bass on these lures but nothing to write home about.
The wind was really blowing and we decided to move to this really deep reed spot where the wind was alittle less. This is where we started flipping and pitching for those bass. The bass where sitting in between the reeds and the grass. The lures we were using were Berkley creature hawgs. Marnuse used every coloure he had on the boat to catch those bass. Nothing big was caught flipping and pitching, but this is still super fun to catch bass in heavy cover.
We fished around for a bit and it was really tough to navigate through the grass and the heavy wind. This where Marnus took me to his honey hole where we started throwing that Flat nose Jerk Shad. This is a soft plastic jerkbait AKA the fluke. This spot was loaded with bass and we caught so many bass that I couldn't put them all in the video or els the video would be three hours longs. This weightily presentation was perfect for this over grow grassy flat due to it's slow sink. This lure and presentation pulled the bass from a distance and this is what caught 80% of the bass on this day out on Boskop Dam.
To conclude this video in a short description, Get the Berkley Flat Nose Jerk Shad to catch those bass in heavy over grown gass dam or ponds. The bass can't resist this lure and you will have a great time catching bass.
