I was a modeler in my teen age years. I’m in my mid fifties now. And own an Outdoor Living company. All high end quality. But with my sketch up experience, I’ve started getting back in to scratch made modeling with XPS foam. Your channel has definitely inspired me to get back into modeling!! Your quality is top shelf, but it’s not just your painting talent, but creativity of design elements in your builds. Very very impressive. I’d admit. I’ve never been a gamer. But I totally respect all the concept. It’s the crafting I’m most inspired by. Your top shelf talent. No doubt.

I am completely in awe of the detail on the table and all of the Dwarven terrain pieces! I have loved and enjoyed your whole Dwarven terrain series; please be inspired to try my hand at the same techniques. However, most of the mapping tile surfaces are use are done on a hexagon tile system, which makes it very difficult to be able to come up with the same aesthetics. As for any other Dwarven builds, perhaps a smelting chamber, with large melting pot for steel and gold. Or even maybe a throne room or great hall, in which Dwarven lords either dined or convened for battles with their enemies.

That is a spectacular table, but one observation/question. If the turntable is not lined up with the hexagonal recess and the table gets lowered, is there anything to prevent it from being damaged by impacting the sides? This is one of the most innovative and ambitious table designs I've ever seen. Knocked it out of the park, bud.
@scottismail6311
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Jarl! Excellent question and something I had to consider early on as I was trying to figure out how to make the lifting mechanism. Those linear actuators are very simple but surprisingly strong and you are 100% correct, if the hex surface (let’s call it the logo panel because I don’t have a better name) is rotated and not in line with the opening, when you retract it, if the actuator continues to pull down it would easily snap the logo panel in half as it tried to force it into the opening. The solution I came up with was pretty simple. The actuator top isn’t actually connected to the logo panel. The top of the actuator is held vertical by surrounding it with 4 pieces of wood, so basically it can push the panel up but will freely pull away from the panel on the way down if the panel isn’t aligned properly to the opening so nothing gets damaged. In this case I just need to rotate the panel and reset everything and it’s good to go. Not sure how well I explained that but let me know if you still have questions!
@JarlSeamus

Keeping them safe from damage, moisture, dust etc... while still being accessible for gaming... must be a challenge.

I'd like to see a dwarven forge, or dwarven throne room. Both could have lava flows that would look awesome.

Another awesome video, I can't wait to try out building some of the scenery you've shown. I'll just have to decide which to choose first.

The table/terrain is awesome its just too bad you settled for 5th edition instead of 3.0/3.5 that you started with.

Hi, I'm new to terrain. I purchased a foam cutting table. I'm curious to know what type of breathing protection is required with cutting XPS foam?

I don't want to officially say what you should or should not be doing when it comes to cutting foam, but I wear a mask if I'm cutting a lot of foam, and I keep the heat where its just enough to cut through the foam and not crate smoke. Keeping a window open and good ventilation is always a priority.
