A few years ago I decided that I wanted to buy the best set of dial calipers on the market. I did some research and the Brown & Sharpe's (sold as Tesa/Etalon too) were supposedly the 'Cadillac' of dial calipers so I bought their best set. After a few days I returned them because they felt 'cheap' and sloppy after using them. After that, I bought a higher-end set of Mitutoyo calipers and they are smooth as butter! The Japanese are excellent tool makers.

Just a thumbs up for MITUTOYO TOOLS, I’ve been a buyer for the U.S. Govn. for the past 20 years… Our fabrication shops demand only the best, as do our machinist… MITUTOYO and KBC are my “Go To” source for precision measurement equipment… the SR 71, U2 and F-117 are all flying today because of MITUTOYO!

@@cyoung4290 The SR-71 is my favorite bird. An acquaintance had a video tape his friend at Lockheed gave him after it was declassified. Then it got reclassified and two men in black suits knocked on his door demanding the tape back. I can neither confirm nor deny that the tape showed the "camera bay" doors open and released a cruise missile...from an unarmed reconnaissance only aircraft.

What a great gift from Mitutoyo. I bought my first 1" Mitutoyo micrometer back in the early 1970's when I was working in a machine shop at a G.M. plant (Vauxhall Motors) in the U.K. The other older guys in the shop were using "Moore and Wright" tools etc and said, what's that Japanese rubbish you've bought. I still have that micrometer, complete with it's tungsten anvils and use it regularly. I am now approaching my 80th birthday. I would love to see a tour of their U.S. H.Q.

Wow, what a nice haul of beautiful tools. Now we get to learn more about Mitutoyo through Mr Pete. Beware of identical looking knockoffs on the market. I ordered what I thought was a genuine Mitutoyo digital caliper at a good price. Alas, it was a fake. The colors, printing and logo were not quite as crisp and the battery compartment was all wrong. I complained to eBay and returned it for a full refund. Let the buyer beware.

That was nice of them. They treated me like absolute (censored) when my 1980s era 12" dial caliper died. No parts, no service, no help, just 'your out of luck'. ...but they DID offer me a coupon to buy a new one from them for MORE than I can buy one online from a verified dealer. Now I wish I had bought a Starret back in the day instead... they still fix what they made. I really want to like Mitutoyo, but the inability to repair, and no referrals to a private shop, left a bad taste. I may buy a cheap used 4" from the same series to get the internal gear parts and try to fix it myself.

I usually don’t like these giveaway tool videos, cheap advertising opportunity for tool companies. But I’m glad you got them, you deserve to get some nice stuff for all you do. I have Starrett, Browne and Sharpe, and Mitutoyo as well as others. My Mits feel better than my Starretts, sad to say. I was sad to see the locking lever on the Mits go to plastic, mine is the brushed aluminum, it just wreaks of quality. I also like my test indicator (again brushed casing, not shiny). I use it quite a lot. Still love all three, but the Mits have been my first pic most often when picking up a tool to measure.

I've had that exact same set with the wooden box for a number of years. That was a really nice gift. I wondered if they might have a different color for the US and made in Japan tools.
