We have a lot of equipment in our house for Robert. A wheelchair, a walker, his transport chair (a smaller wheelchair that fits in our bathroom), a sit/stand lift, a bedside commode . . . There’s a lot.
We don’t use all of it everyday but it sure is nice to have when we do need it! We got the lift before Robert’s Deep Brain Stimulator surgery, thinking he’d be weak afterwards and need a little extra help moving around. It was one of the best purchases we made. We continue to use it on occasion because Robert has days where he just doesn’t have the strength to use his legs very well. It helps him and it definitely helps us too.
Today was once of those days. Usually, he’s weakest in the morning (but don’t dare say he’s tired!). By afternoon, he can usually get up from his wheelchair and walk a short distance to the bathroom.
Unless he has something working on him or he doesn’t sleep much tonight, he should bounce back by tomorrow. If not, we’ll use the lift!
