Robert has a few people at his Day Program who have epilepsy too. Easter Seals does a great job creating a positive, engaging and safe experience for everyone.
Unfortunately (but understandably) the in-person program shut down when Covid hit and many of the programs have since permanently closed their doors.
Robert’s program did an excellent job creating online programs soon after the pandemic hit and they have a variety of classes to choose from. Robert only participates in Bingo but does so three times a week. He loves it!
His in-person program hasn’t permanently shuttered and is slowly opening back up so Robert now attends on Wednesdays for a few hours. They’re hoping to open up more days/longer hours after January.
These programs were hit hard during the pandemic. They had to lay-off staff and are finding it difficult to hire people back now. The main transportation company many of the clients used went out of business and there isn’t a replacement yet. We can take Robert but it makes me wonder how many other clients can’t find another way to get to program. Thankfully, the online classes help keep them connected.
These programs are a vital part of the lives of some of our most vulnerable population. The people who care for Robert and his friends and who tirelessly run the classes put their whole heart into it and we appreciate them beyond measure.
The next time you wonder what programs are being helped by your donations and tax dollars, think of Robert and his friends.
Oh, spoiler alert: Robert won bingo today - twice!!
