It’s been 2 1/2 years since I had any seizures but now I’m dealing with the real and very difficult PTSD from having seizures for over 30 years. Do you have trauma from having seizures for years? In my experience, so much happens surrounding having seizures, besides just your seizures that you experience. Many times I’ve ended up in dangerous situations after having a seizure, whether that’s a partial seizure or tonic clonic (grand mal) seizure. But the confusion that I get afterward means that I’ve ended up in scary places still in a state of confusion. It can take hours for it to pass and to be able to think clearly again.
Here I’m sharing some of my feelings regarding my PTSD currently. Trauma is so hard to deal with and it’s such a long journey. I am aware that I need to get through this to heal. I may not be actively having seizures, but there is a lot for me to do and it’s definitely not over. Epilepsy is still a huge part of my life and affects me every day and every night. So, even if you are seizure free, you may need support to help with the trauma. It’s been helpful for me to learn more about PTSD and specifically how to cope. It also informs which type of therapy I’m going to do. Sending hugs and love your way!
