(This is the sixth in a series of interviews with Al Johnson's most long-term kitchen staff, the people who've made the entire business what it is today.)
Insiders know the truth about what has made Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant & Butik an almost 75 year success. It's not the goats on the roof, not the building's log construction, it's always been the...kitchen. And talented, hard-working people are what made that kitchen run like a well-oiled machine. Over the years, there have been many hundreds of people in Al's kitchen, some of them making a brief pit stop, on their way back to school or to success in other endeavors. For the few who stayed for 10 years, 20 years, even 30+ years, there are all sorts of personal rewards.
The son of founder Al Johnson, Rolf Johnson has not only worked in the business since 1974, he's now a co-owner with his mother Ingert and siblings Annika and Lars. Rolf has an indelible memory for past events, humorous stories, and the people who've made the restaurant operate so well over the years. In fact, start a conversation (or an interview) with Rolf and you never know what obscure facts about Al Johnson's are about to be divulged! [Part 2 of a two-part interview]
