"htc" is UK terminology! It stands for "Half Treble Crochet" which is the same as Half Double Crochet in US terms. Also the "V" thing isn't exactly an error or typo but it means/ symbolizes "increase". "X" means single crochet, v means increase (because it looks like the two stitches in stitch together, I think). These symbols are often ALSO seen in chart/diagram style patterns. That could be why you see it in some free crochet video patterns fairly commonly. Hope that helped!

For the birds, the yellow is a cockatiel, and the blue is a parakeet/budgie. She has very very detailed instructions with lots of photos and the stitch count on the paid pattern. I think she got overwhelmed with how viral her load cat pattern got and hasn't made more videos on the birds, but also, I don't think she should release all her patterns for free anyways. Its like $4.50 and there is so many variations that she does in the paid pattern.

I agree that she shouldn't release all her patterns for free, but she did mention in the birdie video that she would follow up with color variation tutorials. I actually saw on her Instagram just yesterday that she's going to release another video with 2 variations for these birds!

I have made the manta ray pattern but I put a stitch marker in loop so I don’t accidentally pull stitches out lol. The blue coloured bird is a budgie (budgerigar??)and yellow and grey is a cockatiel 😊. Good idea to place stitch markers to determine where to put the tail. Thanks for testing and giving your thoughts and hints. It really helps.

Regarding the bird pattern for the tail, i think not telling you how many stitches is on purpose because it can changebased on tension and YOYO/YUYU/YUYO etc. Though I do think they should say how many they usually do. I am pretty good at just improvising/yolo/making my own patterns how I want and adjusting things though, so for me its not a big deal at all.

Yeah I tend to improvise a lot when I'm crocheting on my own too, but for the sake of other people I wanted to point it out in case it would be a problem for them making a consistent plushie.

In some countries (often, non-english speaking countries) they use V as increase because if u see crochet charts, it looks like a v where there's an increase. In the same sense, X means single crochet, and A means decrease.

Also I agree with wanting instructions for the specific spot/rows to attatch body parts haha. I dont like it being left up to me because it never turns out looking the way the creators plush looks... and I've tried to detach things I've sewn on before, but sometime I'm so thorough with my sewing, its impossible to remove without damaging the body 😅😂

I agree that patterns should be specific for where they place the sewn on pieces, then after I make the first one, I can alter it if I feel it needs it

The Little Birdie Friends did well for me at my first market last month :) specifically the mallard haha 😄 I did frog a lot during the first few attempts, specifically around the wings, feet, tail... whatever had to be in a certain place at the end lol. Eventually I just stopped counting in those rows and placed the body part by measuring the distance between the other body parts lol

I'm a beginer, buying a pattern to do does not make sense right now cause I haven't even learn how to read it yet. I still has yet to figure out what a double stitch is and how to do it.

Well it's a good thing that all of these patterns are free and available on Instagram! But honestly, I wouldn't recommend starting with amigurumi. I would recommend first learning how to make the basic stitches and how to make sure your rows stay straight and even, maybe start out by trying to make a hand towel or scarf. That would be good practice!

Just my thoughts, but a review should be critical. What bothers some may not bothers others and I think she goes over every small detail either way. She’s very respectful for each review, which I like. For example, I don’t mind not having exact row numbers for eye and other body part placements, but someone else may struggle with this and would like to know before getting started if they will have to approximate every detail. 😊
@pieces_of_scrap
Ай бұрын
I appreciate your feedback, but the biggest reason I try to point out every little detail I come across that might cause issues is because a lot of these patterns don't give you an idea of the skill level required to make them. I strive to help you decide if you want to invest time in working on one of these patterns or not, so that's why I try to be as thorough as possible with my reviews.
